as much as i love the sl i wouldnt buy it even if money was not an object. i love the bike but id get an r and a base for basically the same money. the bayliss and the desmo were special bikes different engines and such the sl not so much but omg how it looks

Low sided my 14R at the track and never regretted it! Patched her up and back at thrashing her some more!

No questions asked get the 15' R!!!!!!! The #1 reason the auto-blipper (even though BSD makes the blip box for the SL also). A LOT of the SL cost is of course the full Akra exhaust. carbon body work, forks which you will destroy on the track. The 15' R also has a better electronics package.

I have a 14' 1199 R and after I rode the 1299s at Mugello and I was blown away by the auto-blipper but did not like the dynamic suspension. When I got back I instantly bought the BSD BlipBox for my 1199 R, its almost cheating!

IMO get the 15' R, throw an Akra on it and be done with it!

Yeah, I've had more of a think about it. This guy is talking sense, plus you will have a warranty etc.

And I mean no disrespect to the 2014 R, it was a fantastic machine and a significant upgrade, but the 2015 engine is absolute bat .... crazy, I mean mental!!!

Plus you don't need to throw and Akra on it, already has one.

yea the 15R is a big upgrade to the 12/14R but being a newer model I guess that's no surprise.

As a ex WSBK friend of mine said as he jumped off it "God Damn that feels like a WSBK but you need to ride it bloody hard to get it to work".

My two pence worth, having recently rode the 2015 1199R but not an SL: Choose the one you can generally afford to fix if you smash it up. For just track I can't really see the point in getting an SL over the R as you'll want to put track fairings on either so would loose some of the sex appeal anyhow and to me the SL is as much about form and sexyness as function whereas the R is all about function and just happens to be amazingly sexy as well. That said there was a guy thrashing the hell out of an SL at Almeria track in Spain recently and looked like he was having a ball and running at the top end of the fast group.
