Wanting to Purchase a 2014 1199 R but nervous

If someone is hammering their bike on the street and doing long highway top speed runs complete with wheelies I think that can be a much harsher life than riding six or seven 20 minute sessions periodically on the weekends. Commuting with an occasional highway ramp pull would be a much easier life.

I’m no expert, and there are many variables involved, but it’s my understanding most manufacturers recommend more frequent maintenance schedules for track use than for street use. That’s a fairly compelling indicator that track use is generally more stressful on components.

I think that's more of an indication of the fewer miles a track only bike would get. Imagine a 7500 mile oil change interval on a track bike.

You think they recommended replacing valve springs at 3000 km track use vs 6000 I’m street use because street use is more stressful?

No. What's worse for wear, 500 track miles or 5000 street miles?

I think track bikes have a better life and are more well looked after. There are exceptions of course but I think more people treat street bikes like lawnmowers.

I suspect track (all things equal), but there are a lot of variables involved.

I’m inclined to agree. I think this is one of the many variables I intended to reference above.

5000 street miles with the occasional redline vs 500 track miles with a pinned throttle? Yeah, Ill take the street bike thanks!

How much of a roughly 3 mile lap were you at 100% throttle? .... off with that nonsense. Thanks.

1199 is a great bike but definitely more work then the Honda. Really depends what you want but it's an amazing bike.

Its pretty close, right. 10 years on my 13S, the last 2 years have been track only use. The first 8 of canyon carving were similar as far as abuse is concerned.

Street however, you are not always pushing it.

10 years hard 7000 miles, only had to throw a few MAP sensors at it. Lots of chain lube and oil changes however. I do stay on top of maintenance items.

Been an outstanding motorcycle that is a pleasure to beat on. They hate 100f + days track or canyon.

5000 street for sure. But even steven, 5000 track to 5000 street Depends who is riding it, and where. On my bike with me? pretty dang close. But track is always harder on the bike. Only difference is on the street im not pushing it all the time. Going from one mountain or canyon to the next. On a 300 mile ride, often only a 100- 150 miles is getting after it. Rest of the time your slabbing, even when in all canyon country you get stuck behind cars.

I'd even draw a line on track vs racing. You really have to define things for them to be comparable. Mile for mile, track is harder for sure. But, there's plenty of junk miles on the street.
