I have been doing many of the mods myself on my bike and i swear ducati purposely made this bike very difficult to take apart and put back together. i mean i have the bike almost a year and cant get a damn shop manual. i got the mirrors back on 1 time but i cant get them back on now.

i know many people have had multiple ducs 1198s 996 and what not and you could take them apart and put them together very easy. my ninja i did everything myself this bike is SO DAMN FRUSTRATING.

Is it a plot to get us to take it to the dealer for everything?
just ranting cause im ....... pissed 2 weeks with no mirrors i cant get them on and yes i have gotten them off and on before

If your struggling with the mirrors I wouldn't bother trying to tackle anything else.

These are the easiest parts to remove and install, it takes me around 2 minutes to take on or off.

Now the rearsets and exhaust are a very different story.

Overall this is by far the hardest bike to work on I've ever owned....

Yeah this bike is horrible to work on compared to my previous bikes too. What the dealers get aren't even worth being called a manual.

I feel your pain on the manual, seems a bit overdue.

Sorry, I don't share your pain on the mirrors.

i got the mirrors on and off once before however now i cant get them back on . doesnt matter my rizoma mirrors should be here soon.

everything is hard changing the oil changing radiator coolant etc. you cant even change the damn windscreen without a problem. i mean i got through it all but now the mirrors are being a pain.

Guess after racing so many years, I might be blind to the issues here, but the bike is pretty damn easy to work on. I will say that for race use, the race belly pan requires the mufflers to be removed, but they aren't hard at all...

I believe that when someone compares a bike like the 1199 to say a Japanese machine, you may have issue with the idea that there are some allen, some torx, some bolt heads, etc. Different sizes and different bolt types...

But, the bike is easy to work on. I do think that you tend to understand things the more you take apart and put back together... But this one is pretty easy.

But the rear wheel removal is a complete hassle. Found a way to get it sorted, but DAYUM!!

Mark, what is it about the mirror replacement that is giving you trouble? Does it concern fitting the wiring neatly back into their respective base? Perhaps someone here will offer up a tip or trick once they know what you're actually having trouble with. :)

Hey, at least you don't have to dis-assemble half the bike just to get to remove the rider's seat!! (Older Multis)

If you are friendly with a dealer they were issued with a specific bulletin for mirror fitment

yes on the right side the wires won't stay. i have done it once before but it seems much harder this time. they are significantly shorter than the wires on the left side. the white connecting piece should snap in but it just rests so when you make a movement the wire pops out because on the right side you dont have that much room to play.

however i am getting the rizoma mirrors hopefully delivered this week so i hope its easier. i just get frustrated cause things that should be so easy are not always easy.

thanks for your help

I have had 4 race bikes. 3 Ducks and a GSXR. The Panigale is definitively a pain in the .... Due to the absence of the frame there is too much plastic .... mounted on the engine to hook up all the electronics. Plus now Ducati is halfway between the old style screw on bodywork and Japanese bodywork fasteners with all kinds of hooks and ledges.
I agree it is not fun to work on.

Have you taken off the front or had the dealer replace the screen/instrument cover? Sounds like the right side wire was miss routed and is being pinched. I've had my front fairing off many times and can see how this happens.

If routed properly, both the left and right side wires should have plenty of slack.

I finally named my bike "Pita" Pain-In-The-...! But like everything else worth having; It takes work.
But I understand your frustration.

Had the same problem after I changed to a dark screen. Luckily, there were two of us. Many hands make light work, still a right pain in the .... Far too much work required for the sake of two bolts and a little connector. Didn't find removing/refitting the fairing that much of a drama (granted some bits were a bit awkward) and once its been done a couple of times then its a piece of cake. Ducati Uk send their guy's on a two day course just to learn how to remove/refit the fairing , waste of money if you ask me.....they should invest it in a decent manual ;)

taking the front fairing off the first time took me 90 min. i went slow on purpose not to break anything especially that nose piece. second time i took it off took 10 min piece of cake

...mirrors, blinkers, lighting in general.....just an "after thought" on a ducati....

-- you should see what i'm dealing with installing the dp license plate kit....simple 1, 2 3....you say, "what could be hard about that"...........LOL's !!!!
