Hi Guys

Here is a pic of a tank pad I just fitted.

Having seen the std Ducati item I fancied something different.

This went on so easily I though I'd cocked something up..!

Anyways, the guy I got it from, has loads of other styles at a very pleasing £15.

I know it won't be everyones cup of tea but it's just another (of many) option(s).

See Ya'll........

Looks good - I'll check the other options also.

BTW, the Ducati part is w@nk!!

Fitted super careful on an alcohol cleaned tank and the bugger peeled and bubbled after 10mins

Cheers.!

Take a look at the other options. I'm sure there's something there to suit.

That's the second time i've heard someone say the Duc part is not so special.

Use a hair dryer to warm both the aluminum tank and the tank pad before and after applying. Although your tank was clean, if it is cold (or gets cold within 24 hours after applying) the adhesive will lift. This is true of all decals, but especially thicker, curved items such as a tank pad.

Exactly what I did when I fitted mine.

Therefore...................

There seems to be an issue with the DP 'carbon fiber' tank protectors (pulled paint off). XBox you may want to look underneath to be sure that yours didn't lift due to paint adhesion failure (assuming you haven't already taken it off). USD$55 is top money for any tank protector (especially since it feels like a cushioned piece of vinyl rather than actual carbon fiber molded to the tank). If mine doesn't fit well and stay on as expected, it will be going back.

I was looking around for a tank pad and found this one:

Does anyone know this company or even have this kind of tank pad. It is a little pricey but looks good.

My dealer recommended not to buy the Ducati carbon tank pad, because he (his customers) had too many problems with it. He is hoping that Ducati might change the quality for next year.

don't know this company it'd be nice if they'd picture it mounted on the tank. I will say, I'm not a huge fan of mounting hard tank pads onto a tank, too tough to take off and also potential issues with damaging the tank.

Good advice on the ducati pad, I had the clear version which is identical in design to the ducati carbon, never could get it to adhere properly.

I wish i could find the old style foam with holes. I had one on my 996, best tank pad by far, not a fan the the new kind.

Rascal Grafix makes some great ones, that's what I have on my bikes. I went through 2 DP pads before I just gave up, they were ..... What I went with:

Here is a carbon one:), real panel of carbon NOT a sticker.
Perfectly molded to fit the 1199 tank perfectly, secured with special 3M thin double sided tape that is included.

Also bought a DP tank pad. Applied as directed, thoroughly clean and apply with heat, as have done with previous motos and tank pads. After 3 months of daily driving the pad started to lift in bottom corners.

IMO, cheap adhesive or inconsistent manufacturing. I have no paint problems with my 1199. Several other 1199 show units at dealer fitted with DP tank pad have lifted up also. Not a fan of this particular DP part and would recommend avoiding it.

Wish I read this thread before buying the DP tank pad..... What a piece of crap.
The carbon layer has actually separated from the adhesive leaving just the adhesive layer still stuck very firmly to my tank.
Does anyone have advice on how to remove safely?
Really don't want to damage the paint!

Rubbing alcohol and lots of rubbing.

If rubbing alcohol doesn't work I've had luck with Goo Gone. Depending on the adhesive, I've also used kerosene, olive oil and wd-40 with varying success. You may want to use a hairdryer first to soften it up. I would stay away from acetone (nail polish) as it can remove clear coat and may trash the paint.

pedrin Because we are the distributor for Lieb Speed products for the USA, since 2005. Our tank was actually send to him so the guard could be made directly of the tank to ensure perfect fitment.
I would not be ridding my bike with a crappy looking one that does not fit well:) and neither would I be selling it to others unless it get's my approval.

When I purchased my 1199 a couple weeks ago, I had installed the DP version. Overpriced and did not stick to the tank worth a damn.
I have the shift-tech carbon tank pad on mine now. Just installed it. Had the same installed on my Monster and 1098s before. Great stuff.
