Terrible Termis.....Aaargh..!!

Noise testing is subjective to the equipment being used, it won't be the first time a bike fails at one track and passes at another.

As for looking elsewhere, nothing alternative is available yet.

I'm more than happy with the full Termi system.:D

The detail of the welding is greatly improved from previous models.

I run an Arrow 72mm competition system on the 1098r and Leo Vince on the multi.

What is the point of having removeable baffles if they don't kill the DB sufficiently for trackdays or the authorities??!!

Can't help feeling they've dropped the ball in a big way and most people will now look elsewhere.

Agreed....

Someone missed the marker somewhere.

I think you have that the wrong way around. You wouldn't put the baffles IN for a track day.

I'm glad we don't have such silly noise regulations over here.

Still waiting for the bike to arrive but pretty sure i'm not going to go with Termis.

It is a right pain in the arse riding here (Singapore) as the cops are on you for any modification at all. Aftermarket is a swear word here. Am immediate (and expensive) fine as well as you having to produce the bike within 1 week with the original pipes installed is the routine. I had the full system on the 1198s and even with the DB killers in it was a right pain as you had to ride around without twisting the loud handle much at all.

The 1199's bodywork shows the pipe appearing and for me, if you are going to spend that sort of money, the pipe should be high quality. While the termis i have had in the past (916, 996, Hyper, 1198s) have all been awesome, the one thing that pissed me off was the fact that they dont use titanium pipes, just the cans. so they look pretty crap pretty soon.

I'll have to stick to Stock, or be prepared to fork out 500 bucks every time i turn the key, or leave it up at Sepang as a track bike.

Now you've got me thinking......

I wish it was the wrong way round! In the UK now more and more tracks are limited to 102db, some to 98db. The highest We have is 105db.

Not sure where the rest of Europe is but baffles in and 107db makes no sense in the UK.

If I manage to get hold of baffles that suppress the noise sufficiently to pass track day noise tests, what affect will that have on the engine/combustion. The bike will have the full termi system. Surely It can't be too good as the whole point is to open up the exhaust with less restriction, plus the fuelling re-map would reflect this. Frustrating really, but I want to continue to do a few track days here in the UK when I can.

I'm wondering who the italians paid off to get these bikes past government testing  I have never seen a bike in stock trim this loud  Not an issue for me here in Colorado, we have no limits but I feel for you guys getting a new bike in stock trim and not being able to ride on a track :(

Agreed, that's BS.

I love the sound my termi slipons produce, but I also ride with earplugs.
Just a general measure of protection for my hearing. They're loud enough.

Sounds like I will really need them with Termis on the new bike.

We don't have noise restrictions at tracks (that I'm aware of), but if I can't track it I'll be a bit devo'd. Will just have to use the 848 but obviously not ideal.

does anybody know what the db level,s are with just the termi slip on,s without the full system?

Update on the Termignoni's.

At a recent trackday (Oulton Park) there was an S and Tric. Both failed the noise testing (102db).

The S had std cans and measured 106db, the Tric had baffles and measured 105db. They then tried all sorts of things (bar plugging the exhaust) with the Tric to get it through. By the end you could barely hear the exhaust but it was still producing 104db on the static test. The same bike had run at Donnington previously which has a 98db ride by limit with no problems....

There was a lot of confusion but the conclusion most reached was that the bike is producing a noise or resonance that triggers a higher DB on static tests. In fairness it may not be the Termignoni's that are the problem. The Tric with the baffles in was very quiet, as was the S which managed a few sighting laps at the start of the day before it failed the static test.

Hi,

Were you there when they took the static test? and where was operator pointing the noise meter? ie. did they observe the 45° angle and 0.5m distance from the exhaust exit point?

Also do they measure both sides and take an average or just use the highest reading?

This is a major bummer............

I didn't see them do the tests but considering the lengths they went to and the interest the trackday organiser took I imagine it was carried out correctly.

I'm told the Panigale isn't the first bike with a low exhaust to have problems passing static tests. Pain in the arse though. Guess circuits with the ride by meter will be seeing more of the Panigale until someone comes up with a solution!

Get austin racing to make up a static test baffle and then once passed swap it over for the standard baffles and hope not to trigger the drive bys

that's awesome...being turned away because your bike is too loud. Next thing they'll turn you away because your too fast and wear too much fluro.

More the norm these days. My 2004 ZX10R nearly didn't meet in stock form. At our track it is 100 db. I believe they went to 105 but for sure the Duc, MV and possibly my S1000RR w/aftermarket exh might not meet if under 100.

Noise issue

hI I had same problem but i always take my race bike with me as noise issue is getting worse in uk.
You should come along to our event in Cartagina there are no noise issues there.
Amazing event in October.

I find this all rather disappointing really, there must be some way around it else Ducati have messed up big time here, as they wanted to created bike that was as near to a track bike as possible, yet in the UK it will not even pass to get on a track!

Well I'm sure everyone else in the UK has had a call from their Ducati dealer ref a track day at the end of July at Donnington.... I have put it back onto the Dealers to sort out, or else would be very interesting as none of the 1199's would make it onto track! Obviously I have heard nothing back yet.

I've not heard about Donnington. Do you have details?

We will offer options to get you through track days, it is rediculous the way the uk tracks have absolutely no idea or consistency with db testing.
Time for someone to make a stand against this .........
Mcn would be a good starting point to get a petition running to get tracks and organisers to agree on a method and levels.

At least then, we, as an exhaust manufacturer would know what to aim for with levels.
