Perusing this forum for some time now, I've noticed some common problems with the 1199. It:

  • is too wheelie-happy;
  • shreds rear tires too quickly;
  • burns too much fuel because you're unable to refrain from cracking the throttle;
  • acquires too many drool marks from passers-by; and
  • is ridiculously habit-forming.

I'm pretty sure these problems mirror the problems experienced by one whose supermodel wife is an insatiable nymphomaniac.

I've also found I get funny looks from people because I'm constantly grinning like a .... after getting off it :D

Funny. Actually I find my supersport R6 burns up far more fuel at the track than the 1199 does, even though you're not going anywhere near as fast on it.

Haven't seen any problems yet (and hope not to). My biggest issue (and this is me not the bike) is the damn LCD. Crap, complicated little device. Ok, well, the biggest problem I've had (and I am embarrassed to admit it), I could not find the gas gauge. I called sales guy at the dealer and it took him several hours to call me back (I just know he was searching the manual). His response - there isn't one, and the reason: a sport bike with all of the aggressive cornering and all would not give a valid reading :eek: OMG.......

ducati have yet to work out the gas gauge, but it's usually 100 miles between fill ups.

Ugh, I guess the miles between fillups is a genuine problem, come to think of it. My fuel light usually comes on at about 70-80 miles.

Mind you, I don't exactly baby the thing....

I find that if I put the bike in wet mode i get about 70 miles to a tank, in sport mode i get about 100 miles but get this if i ride it faster i get better fuel consumption and have seen 120-130 miles at an average speed of over 90mph this is on mixed roads in scotland not on a motorway

Riding on the track, I figure I ride hard for 15 of the the 20 minute sessions, average speed 95-100 mph, six sessions, makes 142 miles. I bring the bike to the track full, and one extra 5 gal can. I usually have 2 gal left in the can and 1-2 left in the bike at the end of the day. 8 gallons burned in 142 miles. Adding in the mileage for warmup laps, etc., that's probably right at 20 mpg, which is normal for track bikes. The road-mileage is less than impressive, but you are pushing 1200 cc's with high CR, what do you expect?

The best mileage bike I ever had was my carbureted R1. I'd go like 160+ miles on 4 gal.

Yup, just burned through my first tank and miles were at 78. Jeeze.

I actually rode 85mi on a tank without the fuel light coming on. I think it must be broken! :)

I rode for 35km after the light went on yesterday at 18/L average on the reserve. When I filled up, it was only 13L till full. What's our tank? 15L is it?

the problem with the 1199 is the repair bill after you crash one:mad: freaking aftermarket parts are cheaper than some OEM ones

Isn't that the case with anything automotive... for example.. The factory intercooler for my 94 Supra will be soooooo much more than what I can get an after market intercooler that performs 10 times better.

My only complaint is that I don't have time to ride it more often. That and it tries to burn my legs off my body every time I get on her.

seriously ? thats your complaint that the OEM parts are more expensive than aftermarket ones ?

An OEM front wheel Costs 1,975$, a whole set of carrozeria rims costs 2200$.

Plastic molded fairings are more expensive than Shift-tech carbon fiber one's.
I like to use OEM parts than aftermarket parts. I do not know why
