Hi guys,
I've read that a few people have run into this problem but up till now I was affliction free.
It has been dropping in ambient temp the last 4-5 weeks as we head into autumn/fall here and on a ride last week I did notice that the Duca cover was very misty.

Today however it appears to have upgraded from mist to what looks like oil?

What do you think it is, what is my best course of action ?

Thoughts ?

Best course of action?

Put the stock cover back on. Problem solved.

Where there is air, there is moisture. You will just see that shortly after start up. Once you have driven off and stopped somewhere it will be all clear. :D

having left the bike for 3 hours the cover is now clear but there is now a small collection of some golden looking liquid at the bottom of the cover (can be seen in above pics running down the glass cover).

Can I just unscrew the cover and remove (without anything coming out) to get to the inside of the glass and wipe and clean?

I never installed the cover so thats why the newb question

thanks

was just thinking - will the OEM o-ring fit the Duca part? if so might be worth fitting a new o-ring when I take the front off.

It's oil...is this a serious question?

Had you done any searching at all.

You would have found out this is quite normal for that cover.

It is neither failed or dreaded.

Wow I didnt realise such a simple request would be met with such contempt. Outhouse, yes I did various searches but didnt get what I wanted from reading those.
As I stated, I wasnt the one to fit the cover in the first place so my knowledge deficit would be easily filled by someone who has fitted their own cover.

Anyway.

This is what the cover looks like this morning. As you can see its clear again but the oil residue remains on the bottom of the cover.
Do you think I'll be ok to remove the cover and wipe it over or am I opening myself up to more of the same by opening the cover and upsetting the o-ring ?

Once it reaches operating temperature for 15-20 minutes or more it will all go away. Short rides where the temps are cool or the engine doesn't reach full temp for an extended period of time wil result in the cloudy look. It is simply oil & condensation mixed on the glass. No need to remove the cover and wipe it off. Just get it up to temp for awhile and it will go away.

Consider how you began this thread?? The title in particular.... Claiming ignorance and walking into the room with that beginning will lead you into angst ridden replies.... That being said its been pointed out that this is not a problem just requires the bike to get to temp....

opening the cover will allow even more moisture inside. Leave it alone or just take it off.

Moisutre causes that color. I had this cover on my R for 8,000 miles over 10 months and this was persistent for the first 5,000 miles. I could care less about an oil look for three minutes until the oil heats up.

What did you expect from a bunch of yanks, they will roast you at every opportunity, as for us down under folk, we are a bit more subtle. You will get use to it, it's their way of showing they care!!! LOL

It's all sorted now thanks, I'll be over soon Brad but we won't be throwing it on the fire mate !
