Tried the denial method for a few track days , everyone kept telling me my 1199 smelled of fuel . Last night I cleaned all the area around the tank hinges then shook the bike vigorously and bounced the front end up and down. Reached under the front of the tank and could feel fuel leaking . I was hoping it was the filler vent stems but on removing the tank discovered mine have been removed anyway and found the leak around the mounting brackets .Just stripped the tank of all its mounting hardware , fuel pump grommets and filler cap and dropped it off at the engineering shop to weld it. Hoping they can get it done by tomorrow as I have another track day in three days , I did a quick google and it seems I am not alone as this happened to quite a few other bikes of this generation 899 995 1199 .
Motorbikes not just Ducati's always something going South and removing funds from my wallet .LOL

dang, it seems to have not been covered in here that much... i've owned a couple of tanks, some crashed and none had that sort of failure.

Weld done leak plugged track here i cometh .
Cheap considering the replacement cost of a tank .

Wow
Sorry to hear
But in eight years on this forum that is the first I have heard that
Glad you got it fixed for your track day

Cheers for that brapd51 , I forgot to take a photo of the weld before I put the tank back on . In too much of a rush to get it sorted before my track day but they welded around both forward mounting brackets then sprayed it with rust preventive paint . The good news is the tank was clean inside no rust but we don't have ethanol added to all our fuel here so not an issue like Merica .
