Hey all

I've been thinking of going from my 959to a 1299s

I already have similar equipment

Led headlight off a 1299s
Ohlins Fgrt 214 front forks
Rear Ohlins shock
Carbon bits mudguards and heel guards and exhaust cover
Akropovic exhaust of a panigale r
Essentially a 1299s without the motor and ssa

I was thinking of doing a rapid bike and carbon fiber wheels ( bst or rotobox)and the ssa conversion

Do you guys think I should upgrade or stick with what I have

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions in advanced

I'm going the other way from a 1199s to a 959 track bike.
Your 959 sounds like it's set up well, especially If you invest in wheels and rapidbike tuner.
Almost everyone I talk to says the 959 (properly setup) is the easiet Panigale to ride. Good luck with ur decision.

lol
I have just gone for an 1199 from a 959 for my track bike. I'm actually camped out waiting for morning to have my first track go on it :)

959 is a great thing but I just wanted a bit more power, not because I need it just because my previous track only bike was a very well sorted powerful and light 1098. Just miss shitting myself.

In that case just keep the 959 and take some laxatives. You'll save weight too! :)

I replied to a post on another forum yesterday where a guy said an instructor made a statement that it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. My response was that is a comment to make ....... feel good because the most fun is to ride a fast bike fast. Any question about how I vote?

hahaha yes should have.

I know an 1199 is not a 1299 but right away the difference between a 180/60 on the 959 and a 200/55 on a tighter more technical track is quite a different feeling, yesterday was harder work on the larger displacement bike for sure and slower I would say.

But I think if you want to do an SSA conversion etc to the 959 your focus is not the track so go the 1299, has all the bits and electronics to boot.

That's assuming you know how to ride a fast bike fast.

I have a feeling you might lack the context to understand the point of the instructor.

Just having a little fun on the forum. Sorry if you lacked the context to realize that ;)

I went from a 959 track only bike to a 1299s as a track only bike. My findings were that coming out of the corners, the 959 just didn't have the grunt that my 1098s had. It did however, have the handling that was light years ahead of the 1098s. My local dealer had a track day and allowed me to use their 1299s. Bone stock. It was a true beast. One power wheelie out of the corner and the rest was history. As for the handling, it can be a little slower in the slow corners, but you won't notice it if you keep the motor smooth.

The first time I came out of the last corner at Snetterton in 1st gear by mistake on my 1299s, my underpants were certainly history. Rolled on the throttle got to about 15 deg from upright and gave it a hand full thinking I was in 2nd. Powerwheelie, head shake, poo, start finish straight demolished quicker then I have ever done it, hit the braking marker going way to fast, squeezed hard on the brakes, front end moving around, both back ends had movement, threw the thing to the first corner somehow made the apex. Then thought .... me this things good and I'm a riding god. Reality bit 2 corners later when undertaken by a CBR 600! The Prick.
