Price tag? Easy money, sure some things cost to test out but not that much!!

i prefer the unpainted look, but with matte carbon.

the v4 r will be the bike to get, whenever it finally drops -- just hope the stock wheels and "frame" are not cf.

I dont understand all the hate ... if someone can buy one its pretty cool showing of all carbon fiber ... aprilia had the rsv4 carbon and it was over priced but it would get the looks just like this and to some people thats what having a ducati is all about ...
I agree it looks wierd though like it doesnt have the same kind of class about it

I really like the 1299 after I got it sorted and on a solid platform. I'm just not at all a fan of the brand especially the sales/marketing and the service for the most part is dog ..... When the Anaversario came out, it's all anyone talked about Very shortly after came the 1299SL and the hype started all over again. Then The V4 news cracked and the 1299sl posts disappeared. It's a giant marketing cluster. This SL makes no sense other than to get rid of 1299 inventory and to rig the marketing to maximally capitalize on the "exclusive and limited edition" hype. 85% of the bike is stock 1299. It's not a technology platform for a predecessor because the next bike is a new generation. This is Ducati marketing at its finest. They have essentially hyped a discounted bike as "the next big thing". Amazing and you noticed how the V4 next gen was kept under wraps until this thing was heavily sold.

I've said it many a time on here, it's like Ducati now employ the same marketing agent as Apple.........

I'm looking forward to the all new V4 Superleggera

I don't understand all the hate either, its not a necessity, its a luxury. If we all could buy a lambo to drive to work we would. Don't confuse hate with jealousy. You should call the SL owners up and let them tell you what to do with your money.

I think you misunderstand some peoples position on this. It's not about hating it's more about the brand becoming a bit of a joke. The people who spent all the money on an 1199 Panigale SL that was supposedly exclusive are now being outgunned by a 1299 Panigale SL that's exclusive. Or you can go buy an Anniversario thats exclusive....... Do you see it yet? iPhone5, 6, 7, 7s, 7 Plus, 7 Plus S?

Love the CF look (in matt) and brushed tank but it looks like an "old" 1199rs replica.

Also paintless should cost less!
As the PanigaleR brushed aluminium fuel tank cost $200 less than the base or S full Red fuel tank.

Yes let's stop all the world's technology from advancing because people paid a lot of money for 1199 SL's.

What do you expect Ducati to do? Never release anything better than an 1199 SL because it's supposed to be "exclusive"?

I'm sure you missed his point.

Ducati never did release this many so called exclusive bikes as frequently as they have in the recent past. Before Audi, the exclusive models almost never existed in comparison. Of course a company needs to come out with newer and more updated models to make money but they could have just released models in a way where they didn't put so much hype as exclusivity because it is no longer like the years of the past. When the desmo came out, there was no other exclusive bike until the 1199sl. I mean sure, there were sp models and whatever else that were numbered but we're talking about an SL level of bike. 1199SL just came out 3yrs ago, then they announced the anniversario just cuz it was an anniversary model and then now the 1299SL. It takes away from the exclusive factor a bit when the manufacturer decides to release another numbered vehicle after just having released one. If the anniversario was released like the base, S, tricolore lineup a few years ago, I think that would have helped a bit but even still, the 1299SL release really wasn't necessary. There was a point to be made with the 1199SL and that was to release a production bike and make it light as possible. The 1299SL is just another fancy panigale with some changes. If they released an SL version of the next gen bike instead of the 1299SL, i think that would have been acceptable as well. They are simply flooding the market with a bunch of bikes too frequently. That's the point.

Flood the market I say then the circling vultures like me can pick one up for a reduced rate.
I love looking at the really expensive stuff it's real eye candy and an SL (any of them) in my garage would be a real treat.

Do you still have an Iphone 5? Technology wins.

double0 and Mutt are on the money. Don't mistake technology for gimmicks. The 1299SL has zero new tech. The CF frame was done long ago by a couple of mfg and they couldn't give them away. Ducati has used CF in the frames in GP. 90% of the high end bicycles today have CF frames. The frame is the same as the old frame but of different material in fact the CF frame is not much lighter at all than the magnesium SL frame. The swingarm is not new tech. BST and Dymag have had them out for years. CF wheels? No need to go there and the new Rotobox Boost wheels look very similar. Titanium con rods and valves? yea, thats a new one. CF bodywork, I have had that on my 1299 for 2 years and i have a full CF tank and tail. Whats left? Oh yea. The electronics package. Maybe they should work out the details of the basics like keeping the thing running or a functional cooling system before they give us the ability to control a power slide coming out of Starbucks. I have a PC QS on my 11 year old 1000RR actually 2 of them one reversed so I have up and down clutch less. It does not auto blip but from a smooth, functional, mechanical perspective, it kicks the .... out of what Ducati gave me 11 years later. So Im not sure where all this technology is hiding that you speak of. This stuff has been available in better packages for less money for a long time. Maybe when they do get some new tech, they can cut down on the gimmicks but I don't see it coming from this brand. Oh wait, I heard they have a new V4 coming out. That should get that tech wagon rolling. No one has one of those.

Fair enough points guys i get why some dont like them i guess i just have a different view is all
I like when i see something like this out and about and you think to yourself holy .... its one of those they are like a million dollars ... thats all i wont ever have one , just a window shopper
But yes i agree that flooding the market isnt great so i get what you guys mean

Of course it's been done before. What hasn't been done before in a streetbike?? You guys expect cutting edge Moto gp tech in an $85k bike?? Its the trickle down effect. A few years from now Ducati will be selling a bike on par with the 1299 SL for $30k and there will be a newer SL. And you guys will be crying again like you didn't see it coming.

And you guys will be crying again like you didn't see it coming.

No, quite the opposite, I mean I can see it coming a mile off, that's my point! Oh look, a new SL. Yeah, never mind a new one will be out next year......... Oh look a new SL etc....... need I go on?

It's just these boundary breaking, envelope pushing technological marvels have lost their shine. Ducati marketing has done this.

Example, Desmosedici. Now that was a ground breaking and unique machine

Yea. No thanks. I got way more for my money than that factory rip off. Seriously guys. The guys who know me here know I have the $$ to buy that thing but I wouldn't pay more than 40k for that thing. It's a great bike but it ain't anywhere near 85k. Save your $$ and get the base V4 Panigale (yes the new V4 is basically a Panigale with a new motor) and dump 20k in it and crush this overpriced dinosaur. Again great bike but Ducati really took some guys to the cleaners on this one. Ducati found a profitable way to chew up the rest of the now discontinued Panigale parts. This bike is way too easy to replicate for a lot less money. Of course if you absolutely have to have that Limited Edition top clamp well then by all means, get that check book out

we dont agree on much but you nailed it on this one. great

Dont have a problem with a 1299 SL when its the end of a model
I just think the Anni should have been only a graphic thing without the buzz, Tri like.

In my country for 78k USD you get a new R and a butt plug not an Italian moto gp track experience.
