These are the only pictures I've seen of the new Ducati 1199 dashboard. I'm surprised it doesn't have some sort of heads up display!

What are your initial thoughts on the new 1199 dashboard?

I really like this new TFT dash display, especially how it reconfigures the display depending on the mode. I wonder if you can reconfigure the redline to start at 10.5 instead of 6.

My guess is that redline of 6 is a break-in number that will change once the engine reaches a certain millage.

I know that the Beemer has a similar nanny control.

notice the clock says 2:32 AM. Ether those guys were up really late or the dash on that bike hasn't been set-up.

I hate the engine icon. At least they could put a little L-twin silhouette in there.

Dash

As previously mentioned, the dash probably changes according to mileage(break-in) and temperature...My BMW has a feature that changes the redline according to operating temperatures being reached...i.e. when cold 4K is redline, once up to operating temp, redline goes to 7K...cheers-

Good observation, That sounds like a good explaination. The TFT display does look pretty nice. I hope it doesnt scratched or damaged by sunlight easily.

I see the pin code selection on the menu screen, that means the 1199 will have a keyless ignition like the Drivel and Multi.
Bummer :( The damn thing doesn't work in your pocket and there's no place to put it on the bike.
I keep the keys in my bikes at all times while at home - the stupid fob is just a pain. Now I'll have two rouge fobs to keep track of?

Owning an old 996, this 1199 display wows me. The known functions so far are more than I envisioned. Great to have the gear indicator. Would like a fuel level indicator. Hope the low fuel light is accurate.

I hope the dashboard can still be seen clearly in direct sunlight when riding during the daylight hours.

Admittedly, I'm more a fan of analog gauges. I prefer to see a dial wrap around a circle for my RPM's.

I was watching the development video for the 1199, and captured some screenshots of the dashboard.

This one was from riding the 1199, but Ducati was not trying to showcase the dashboard. Interesting that you can barely see anything except for the gear indicator:

very interesting, you're probably right...doens't the beemer need a tech to "release it" at first service? Ducati could be the same.

i'm loving this dash, can't wait to start playin with it

The rev limiter during run in isnt locked like the BMW so no tech needed.
As I have said in another post a warm up guide has also been built in to let the bike get to optimum temperature before setting off on your journey.

For those who prefer analog gauges, don't worry, after a brief acclimation period you will quickly appreciate this type of dash way, way more (especially if you race). Even on the street, though, you will be amazed at how rapidly you are able to attain all the data you need with just a glance and without thinking. You won't notice the effect until you go back to an analog bike/car, though....at which point you'll find yourself 'confused' for a second while trying to ascertain speed / rpm / gear / etc. Again, not a huge deal on the street, but on the track it really is a tremendous advantage when 99% of your mental resources are spent elsewhere.

The thing that sucks about this display....

Is that I'm not glancing at it right now while ripping through a mountain pass...

Could you switch the main display to a GPS display?

is there a ducati accessory which you could mount a rearview camera at the tail and rearview will display on the instrument cluster by a touch of a button? We can throw away mirrors then.

Will we have a bike with no instrument cluster and your iphone will be it.A docking station will accomodate the iphone, authenticate and start-up your bike's engine...?

The Ducati 1199 cluster is a treat to look at. Would be complete with fuel gauge.but with all the wheelies, the gauge display will go crazy...
