Good evening guys, I know this has been done before but I am about to need new sprockets/chain on my 1199. I will go for the 41 tooth conversion but has anyone gone down to the 14 tooth front sprocket as well or will that be overkill? I have looked at the old threads and it looks like the AFAM seems to be the conversion of choice on here but any advice from those that have done this would be greatly appreciated.......Cheers.

14-41 IMO would be wayyyyy overkill and you would probably hate riding it. Very twitchy throttle and difficult to control. Down 1 in front is like going up 2.5 or 3 in the rear so doing both that is basically throwing a +5 in the rear. Do ome or the other but definitely dont do both.

As said above, that will likely be far too short gearing and not much fun to ride. In my opinion the 1199R stock gearing is the perfect all rounder for the 1199. The only times I've wanted different is a few very fast tracks such as Mugello and Imola where I could have done with having the original longer gearing of the early 1199.

The earlier 1199S have longer gearing than the later bikes so it makes sense to change.

To my understanding all 1199 except for the R has similar gearing. I have a late 2014 1199S and it came with sprockets 15-39.

Just go up to 41 teeth on the rear sprocket

Just go up to 41 teeth on the rear sprocket. I put a 45 tooth rear sprocket on my 1299 and I almost couldn't shift fast enough to get to 2nd gear before the rev limiter kicked in. The engine braking increases with larger sprocket size, too. I would like to have even less engine braking than I get with EBC 3.

OK, thanks for the advice guys, greatly appreciated, now just need to work out where to buy from and what to get.

Nothing wrong with the stock gearing, had the front end come up after shifting into 5th at 150, and it would ruin the bike for the canyons I ride.

I'm with the guy above, let the track dictate the gears.

Actually yes thats correct now I think about it. I have a 2014 1199S and I changed to the 41 rear sprocket. The 2014 1199R has the 41 rear sprocket.

I'd strongly recommend the 41 rear sprocket to all 1199 owners as it works much better. You very rarely need to do the ~185mph that 39 tooth stock gearing gives and the 41 tooth still hits 180mph without much problem.
The extra bit of punch the 41 tooth gives is really nice to ride with and the gearing is much more practical for the average corners on most tracks and roads since you get stuck between gears less often.

I'm not able to check my own bike history but from this site which I'm assuming is correct:
1199 Panigale (all models) 2012-2015 - Ducati - STREET

1199 Panigale S/ABS 2012-2014
STOCK SIZES: Chain - 104 Links / 525Pitch | Front Sprocket - 15 Tooth | Rear Sprocket - 39 Tooth
1199 Panigale R 2013-2015
STOCK SIZES: Chain - 106 Links / 525Pitch | Front Sprocket - 15 Tooth | Rear Sprocket - 41 Tooth

I think I have seen peoples posting that they have changed sprockets on their 1299 from 39 rear to 41 rear so I assume that 1299 base and S also come with 15-39 sprockets... Someone with a 1299 can confirm this if I am wrong or correct but that was what came to my mind.

Correct. 1299 came with a 39t. Another vote here for the 41t. It actually made 6th gear usable on the hwy.

I stand corrected, it's still just the R that have 41 rear sprocket from stock, I was convinced they had all been changed to 41 until now. I'll edit my posts to not confuse.

The recommendation for 1199 to use 41 remains :) The 1299 has so much low down torque maybe the 39 does the job well enough as it is less likely to get bogged down.

Yes, will definitely chang to 15-41 when it is time to change chain and sprockets (probably not before) but with 8000 km on the dash it is still some time until that moment...
