To trade or not to trade, that is the question...

Shakespeare had no idea what cerebral dilemmas laid in wait for us that continue to hustle this mortal coil at blistering speeds through the chicanes of life. Ok, enough of my horseshit.
My question:
Please tell me why I shouldn't trade my 1 year old 1299s in for a v4s. Bear in mind, it is a track only bike. So track heads, is it THAT much better???

I have no reasons why you shouldn't .
I have finally got my V4 to a point where I am happy .
Re valved the showa front fitted a TTX rear shock changed the rear sets 520 chain set up one tooth down in the front and one up back fitted the full system and race glass and its a beast .
The sound alone is worth the entry fee

From a pure power perspective, it is definitely a step ahead. From a rideability standpoint, it is much smoother overall. It's deceivingly quick. It doesn't invoke that feeling of wrestling a tiger like the 1299 did, but that could be a positive or negative, depending on what your preference is.

Handling is pretty comparable, as the 1299 is pretty light and nimble. Now if you compare handling to something like a S1k, it feels much better and more nimble, imho. The brakes seem to be much better than the stockers on the 1299, if you haven't switched out the brake master. If you have, then they are about the same.

Although a bit harder to decipher, the electronics do feel a bit better. The configuration interface is waaaaaay better than the 1299 and should be the high bar for other manf. The up/down QS is sublime compared to the 1299. It is so buttery smooth and the downshifts feel MotoGP 'esqe. (I haven't had any QS problems *knock on wood*, but I've read on here about others).

The things that irritate me.. no DDA yet available to me (though I've heard of others that have it already). Exhaust/fuel management options limited to basically Akra only at this time. Clutch is still mildly annoying even after the recall (better but still not great). If your pushing it hard on track and run in places with heat comparable to TX, you MUST get the radiator update completed (mine has overheated).

For reference, I've got a 2016 1299s and of course, the V4s. Both completely tracked out. I've also spun some laps on the SL, HP4, R1M etc. I've got a decent baseline of reference points to compare with.

You ride some tight tracks there Wilks? Seems like a good setup to really drive that thing outta the turns with some authority.. :D

I could probably go up 1 tooth in the rear for COTA, but I'm already almost topped out in 6th before braking on the long back straight.

Good question,

I had the same dilemma but mine is a real well sorted 1199S, I thought I would wait until I could ride the V4.

Having it now for over a week, it is simply better in every area of the twin Panigale. Ducati did a great job on the bike, and after 6 years on my 1199 it feels just like an updated model, everywhere. I wasn’t expecting it to be this good, but it is.

So....my 1199 is going.

I want to concentrate on my V4 now.

Only you can decide if it’s worth the cash outlay.

Good luck

I found the bike way over geared more so than anything else I have had . We have a new track here with a long main straight and was not even getting into 6 gear I destroyed two rear at my last day there . I may go down one in the back for that track
My other track which I ride regularly was coasting in second on a usual second gear corner actually made the bike difficult to ride .
I'm finding my current gearing quite good
