R6 all day long.. Ask me why I'm biased. .. highly capable. Plenty of spares cheap to repair.. I have taken the 1199 to the track a few times but I have more fun on the r6 as I dont want to chance the resale going any lower by wrecking the pani. It's nothing to do with capabilities. . I'm faster on the r6 by miles because of my own thoughts.. and even if I used both to capacity. . Which I dont.. the times would be only a second or 2 apart from eachother on the tracks I go to..

Depending on what you want to spend, I would go with either the SV 650 or an 848. Just go to any WERA event and count the number of SVs. The R6 is by all means a great track/race bike that has been proven for years. However, the power band of the inline 4s are much different than the twins, which is why I would recommend the SV. It's engine character, while much less powerful, will be more relate-able to a Ducati. If $ is of no big concern, then the 848 is a no-brainer. Just my two cents :D

How about a Triumph Daytons 675?? I had one and loved the triple motor. You can get a 2013 R for around $10k. Super fun bike and good top speed. Not so whiny as the Jap 600s.

Ps... I'll add for knowledge mine is an 08.. the 08-14. Are the same bike go used.. the newer ones in Stock form weigh more due to emissions gear and less power due to the same and a more restrictive exhaust. . Of course once you drop the exhaust and tune they are all Te same until motor work.. mine puts down 120+ at the rear wheel on sun och 260 gtx fuel. And weighs 363 lbs wet.. I would say that's plenty

When I started back on the track last year, I took my 1199. It was my first time back on a bike since 05. Since then, I've done more than. 20 track days and went from running in the 40s at Jennings to 22/23s. That's fast/middle A group pace. I'm racing my 1199 and since I don't ride the street, it money well spent. I could go for a smalle displacement bike, but why? I bought the 1199 for just this reason, to learn to ride it fast and on the track and race. If I crash it, then it needs to be fixed. I will be tracking and racing the new R next year as well.

White Pani - Want to always type WhitePanties there lol. I do nto have an 1199 if I did I'd use that. And I am not buying the 1299s to pose. It will be my track bike in a few years when I am back to that point of confidence and necessity. It's taken a almost a decade to get my spine back to where I can handle riding let alone tracking a bike. So I am just looking for something to re-acllimate myself to the track riding.

Ive seen multiple references the Daytona 675r gonna call the local dealer on that and get a test ride.

reganc and PHL - Exactly I don't need a monster bike to relearn. I figure new would give me a chance to ride that while I wait for the 1299 to come in also :) seeing as track season is basically over here. I can play with it for a bit on the roads and have some semi fun.

About 10 yrs ago when I was in the Army, I rode my ... off and tracked an R1 I had. It was totally reliable. I was lucky enough while stationed in Germany to do 4 track days at Sachsenring and a fun and terrifying ride time at Nordschleife(original Nürburgring). But after alot of injuries. Neck, Back, Right arm nerve damage, TBI, nerve damage right leg etc. I want a bike to reacclimate with and prepare for the 1299.

Mark - Exactly my thoughts. I can afford to fix the bikes I listed quickly the 1299 on the other hand or 1199 would be hard unless I bought Whitepanis parts lol.

Juice your a WERA racer though, I'm not. I put myself back to beginner after all of the above listed as a safety thing. But in a year or so I will track the 1299s.

valid point, if you are in the position to shell out the $ for a dry tumbled panigale

the skill required to go fast on this bike is another dimension!

b9009b,
I started back in novice. I didn't dare jump into advanced after a 9 year layoff. Started in novice and worked my way back to advance.

From top to bottom, 2005, 2013, June 2014, Nov 2014. It all has to do with seat time and open up to learn and be criticized.

By my third track day, the bike felt good, but it took until two weeks ago to feel like my BP was just right. I had a GSXR 750 and that was from 2000-2005. Since 2005, I had not been on a bike until I bought the 1199 in Sept of 2013.

You own a 1199 or are planning to buy a 1299 and you want to buy a different/less capable/slower bike to track?

Am I the only one who doesn't undrstand the absurd mentality of owning a $30,000 track beast but riding some falling apart jap bike on the track? Are Ducati's truly good to only pose at 'bucks??

Now, I did in fact lay my 1199 down at the track, total damages that absolutely had to be replaced so I could ride the bike- zero dollars. Small crack in my carbon fiber lever and road rash all over the left side fairings. You can source these parts at a decent cost or look at track bodies. As long as you're not riding like an ....... completely out of your limit. You will be fine on 1199 or 1299 as your first track bike. Whatever bike I end up owning in the springtime weather if you my HP4 for 1299S I plan on tracking.

Just my $.02. Don't shoot me. In the end getting to go to the track no matter what bike is a hell of an experience.

It kills me to see so many people have these Ducati's that sit in the garage and never get to really experience the bikes ability's.

+1

I'm a 20 year Retired Veteran as well, I can not understand the purchase of a superbike to ride from light to light. I've always done track days on liter bikes and now on my 1199. The bike is made for the track! If anyone has concerns about crashing their bikes at the track, then do not go out there, because eventually it will happen. It's just part of the sport, sorry to be the bearer of bad new!!!! I've ridden with guys that started on 600cc and made the jump to liters bikes and really never felt comfortable. They all could not find that one element when it comes to riding a big bike......and that is being smooth on/off the throttle. The bikes of today will allow you to carry just as much corner speed as smaller bike, this I know for a fact! No one on this form can tell you what's best for you Troop!!! Good Luck...Airborne!!
