Trading in the Panigale for a

I have both a Pani and a Hyper SP 1100. The Hyper is a great second bike when I want to be a little more comfortable or if I am in a Hooligan mood. Its kind of a Swiss Army bike, does everything well but nothing great. I have no interest in selling it but at the same time have no interest in it being my only bike. I love my Pani (2nd one) for what it is and really don't find it uncomfortable even with questionable knees and a bad back.

Hypermotard SP? I really this bike. The Panigale is just to uncomfortable for a ride more than 10 miles on my hands... I would say its cause of being a 16 year auto tech, but my R1 was the same way. Anyone else thought about it??

And my neighbor is trading in his Gallardo for a softer riding Lincoln Town Car :D

39 year auto mechanic here and same story as you. Odd thing is I can comfortably ride a F4 Agusta and a Aprilia RSV4. Don't know what makes the Pani hurt so bad. Really pissed because bike is a blast.

Agreed on the Ninja.... but seriously if the OP cannot ride the 1199 for more than 10 miles without huge discomfort I am wondering if any motorcycle should be in his garage???

You may be right"¦.A short ride for me on the Panigale is 150 miles. Twice I've done 250 mile days on it"¦.and I'm 61 years old! I do 300-350 mile days almost every weekend on the Ninja 1000. I've done 650 mile days on the BMW"¦..

Could be height and or weight.
I'm 5'7", weigh 165 lbs and feel more comfortable on the Pani than on my
S4RS on long rides.

Same here, coming from a Hyper S I can go a lot longer on the Pani. The upright position was torture after 200 miles.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I don't know that I will do it. Just curious I guess if anyone else has maybe entertained the idea.

VW, one more thing I would ride both the pre '13 SP as well as the '13+ models as they are significantly different IMO. While I would have loved the DTC, ABS, and maintenance schedule of the current generation I liked the powerband of the air cooled version a lot more and ended up picking up a low mileage gently used example and saved a few thousand as well.

Pani is the most comfortable pure sport bike I've ever ridden (soon to be 62 years old). I remember 150 mile days on my 748 being brutal. But I've done 350 mi on the Pani last summer with no problem.
I wouldn't attempt 850 milers like I've done on my Triumph Sprint. But for the majority of my weekend rides (200-300 miles in N.GA./NC for the day), it's great.

Damn, your an old fart ;)

I too have had many bikes over the years. I'm currently 44 and my base ABS 1199 is the most comfortable sportbike I have ever owned. And it really shouldn't be, but it is.

The ONLY thing that affects my seat time on this bike is the heat. Somehow ergos are a non-issue on this bike and I'm very happy for that. I can do 250 miles without getting too sore in the saddle or wrists hurting.

I'd like to pick up a hypermotard for a second / summer bike though....

I test rode the new Hyper SP a few weeks ago and it was a blast! A bit tame compared to the outgoing model (given the motor difference) but hella fun nonetheless. It's as if the old model went to prep school and got sophisticated. Made me go super fast in traffic. Very nimble.

I would consider this a great second bike.

Another bike to consider might be a KTM 1290 Super Duke R when it gets released. I think they are starting to show up in the showrooms.

Good luck!

I thought about the same only so I can carry more stuff.test rode the hyper sp for 200ks it was fun but not for me. I ride my 1199 as a touring bike up to 700ks a day and most of my rides are no less 100ks.I can,t see the point of gear up for anything less:p

IMHO keep the Pani if your means enable you and get the Hyper too. The substantially different personalities of each bike give you a choice every time you throw on a helmet.

My Pani is my adrenaline rush/rock star bike. My air cooled Multi is my "3 state lines today. Sure! What's the twistiest route" bike. And my DRZ SM is my grin a minute hooligan city bike. I am a lucky man. You can be too!

This is smart if you can swing it financially - owning multiple bikes makes you appreciate the nuanced differences between them, leading to greater overall enjoyment. Even if you only have 2 sportbikes like a Kawi and a Pani, you'll enjoy riding them both more as you become aware of all the little subtleties.

Thanks for the input guys. I really like the Pani. I think the SP would be a good second bike. Having the Pani and SP are out of the question. I am gonna try some of those weighted bar ends and maybe different gloves to help with numbness I get in my hands. Anyone say the bar ends help with a reduced vibration in the bars? I am thinking about the cnc racing ones.

VWJeff have you tried changing the seat??? I ride with the race seat which for me made the ergos on the Pani perfect for me. I tried the comfort seat as well but it sat me to high which lead to too much pressure on all my joints...wrists, elbows, etc.
