Tuneboy Tune and maps for the 1299

I've gone for the LC sensor kit also.
Hopefully get a road custom tune done soon, just waiting on the courier/pigeon!

Heard nothing back from Tuneboy, anyone have an update?

I haven't heard anything since an email from Emma last Thursday (see my post #20). I understand they are trying to validate one of the tune maps that was inadvertently missed initially, but they need a 1299 on their dyno (or on the dyno of another of their trusted tuners) before that can be done. It seemed a bit open-ended - there was no ETA given. So, I actually offered my bike for their validation test, but haven't heard back.

Mine will go in before the end of the month - just gotta put a couple hundred miles on it before they want it

That sounds good. Have you confirmed that your shop (Pro-Twin?) will have access to the 1299 TB maps? Do you know which map missed out on its validation test and do you know whether your tuner is going to run that map so that TB can release the maps to the rest of us.

my understanding is that the tuner actually provides maps to Tuneboy? The rest of the questions I do not know answers to mate

Lightning - thanks for the update.

buttnekid - I think you might struggle if Tuneboy haven't released the 1299 dat file. The tuner will adjust the that file with a trim for your bike but to begin he needs to load that file into your bike. I fell foul of this last month & I think this is what we're all still waiting for.

Hopefully it won't be much longer!

relax guys, my tuner has everything he needs - I have just clarified it - if can get the bike in earlier to them so they can tune and you can get your hands on the hot little file earlier I will do so

Hmmm no responses to emails now from Tune Boy,
Usually have been ok past 2 months, now no replies

Wanted to give everyone a heads up from what I am currently experiencing.

My bike has been at the local dyno shop for 3 weeks. TuneBoy bricked my ECU and has not been able to recover it as of today. They have been conversing very slowly with the shop and sent ECU recovery files and different methods to try and recover it with no avail. The shop is at the mercy of TuneBoy at this point and not sure of any ETA. I can only hope they get something figured out soon. I am frustrated to no end and started conversations around who is going to be responsible to obtain a working ECU from Ducati. I fear an ECU might not be obtainable as this is not something that is expected to fail so soon and stock might be committed to new bikes or months out of reach. In addition, I am sure its not cheap and I imagine they (TuneBoy or Shop) are going to want as much time as they can get, but riding season is getting shorter everyday!

Patiently (sorta) waiting!

Luv2Ride - 1299 or 1199? A lot of members have flashed Tuneboy to 1199's, never heard of this issue before. Hope you get it sorted, out of curiosity did you unlock the ECU or did the shop?

SPJ - 2015 1299 Panigale S and shop unlocked the ECU via TuneBoy procedure. When they unlocked it and applied the flash, software indicated it was successful and to cycle the ignition. When they did the ignition cycle, it bricked the ECU.

Update:

Shop just left a message and just got off Team View session with TuneBoy. They were able to recover the ECU and have it running on the base map. All indications look like they can proceed with the Dyno portion of the tune. This is good news and I will know more tomorrow.

At any rate if successful, this should create a map that is acceptable for some folks, or at minimum provide a working base map as a starting point.

Stay tuned!

I hope it gets sorted for you. Does this mean that your shop tried to flash a 1299 with 1199 files? Or was there something else going on?

I hope this isn't an indication that Ducati has added some kind of ECU overwrite protection on the 1299 ECU. There are workarounds to such protections, but how is far beyond my understanding.

When the ECU to my Audi RS6 was reflashed, the tuner had to do it in small chunks, because Audi has some sort of ECU protector that shuts it down if it's being overwritten for longer than a set period of time (maybe 30 seconds or something like that).

Audi now owns Ducati; it's possible they started write-protecting the ECUs. Tuneboy needs to determine this for certain before releasing 1299 files; imagine the uproar if everyone who tries to overwrite 1299 ECUs ends up bricking it....
