I don't doubt Rossi is unlikely to win another title or races this year, what you can't deny is his consistency every weekend. IMO the title will be between Marquez and Vinales, likely to come down to consistency as much as speed. Not sure I'd count Lorenzo as a real rider until he wins regularly on the Ducati as I believe Marquez or Stoner would.

do you not think zarco would be as consistent on the same bike? do you think rossi would be consistent on a different bike.
the fact is you have more talented riders on other bikes that can do better than rossi has been doing since 2013. case in point lorenzo stays at yamaha means maverick would be rotting on the suzuki while rossi as usual does nothing for yamaha.
so lorenzo is not a real rider because he wont win on ducati but rossi is a real rider because he is at yamaha and has already failed at ducati. ok got it.
lornezo has won 50% of the titles since 2010 yet he isnt a real rider. lorenzo head to head is clearly a better rider on the same equipment as rossi as the stats prove it.
rossi stole lorenzo settings and even his gear changes to keep up with lorenzo yet again he isnt a real rider come on man
First off you have to have a firm understanding of the mindset that you are dealing with when discussing Rossi with Mark. You have to adopt the strategy that no matter what the outcome of a contest that Rossi is just a washed up, no talent. Having a rational conversation with Mark on numerics and statistics is like hanging a chandelier in a haunted house. Rossi was tagged as "not a real rider" because he could not win on the Ducati. Mark will never tag Lorenzo as "not a real rider" if he does not win on the Ducati. Mark's contention is that Rossi cannot compete with Lorenzo if Lorenzo has a good bike. Well Rossi beat Lorenzo in the Championship 3 out of the last 4 years while Lorenzo was on a Yamaha and only lost to Lorenzo by 5 points in the one year Lorenzo finished on top (2015). So you can see, that Mark is fortunate to have a job that does not require him to deal with rational mathematics. With regard to better riders on slower bikes. Thats not quantifiable at this point. Zarco is a talent coming out of 250 but then so was the wonder boy Rabat. He has not done a damn thing. At any given time something could happen. Look at Spies. WSBK champion. Gets on a top team and did not perform so saying this is or that is the next best thing means nothing until its in the record book. MM falls off his bike almost as much as Crashlow. The odds of MM breaking something are fairly high. All it takes is one bad crash and you can kiss that potential GOAT goodby. Lastly in a business scenario , my job at Yamaha corporate would be to maximize the brand and sell bikes. No one comes close to Rossi in doing this. So I have the top PR man in GP again leading the world championship. Mark would have gotten rid of Rossi and Mark would have been fired by Yamaha in a NY minute. In short right now you have Rossi who makes more money for his brand that any other rider. Has more championships than any other rider, makes more money personally than any other rider, has a significantly higher global economic impact than any other rider, has been more consistent than any other rider and you have Mark who has labeled him as "not a real rider". This is Mark's reality. On a side note, Mark is a good guy. He may just need some pharmaceutical intervention to fix his Rossi condition.

You're wrong I never tagged rossi as not a real rider because he couldn't ride on the Ducati. I tagged him not a real rider cause the stats proved it. But by that guys response how is Lorenzo not a real rider if rossi did the same exact thing. On top of that Lorenzo stats are better than rossi. So according to that guy Lorenzo isn't a real rider cause he can't win on the Ducati. His words not mine yet rossi is? Hmmmm

Mark it's your definition above that Rossi isn't a 'real rider'. A multiple world champion and one of the most successful racers the sport has seen. Still not quite sure how you get there for Lorenzo and not Rossi on stats when Rossi has finished ahead in the championship more often than not since his return to Yamaha.
IMO when comparing them as team mates there wasn't much in it. Lorenzo had the ability to be faster and consistent, but only when things are going his way. Rossi is better when setup isn't perfect and always grinds out a result on Sunday afternoon. I think he had better race craft too.
At that level they are clearly all real riders but I don't see Lorenzo being considered a cut above if it turns out he is unable to be competitive on anything other than a factory Yamaha which suited his riding style.
I don't agree with the initial post regarding tyres. It's trying to make a theory fit as to why one rider was so successful over a given period and coming up with a solution. At that time Michelin were making custom tyres for plenty of riders, not just Rossi. In every form of motorsport the best riders/drivers will always get access to the best equipment, that's just part of racing. For me it's pretty simple, at that point in time he was the quickest rider out there.

Yeah Rossi is starting to be outspokenly confident that he's figured out the M1. We'll see...won't be surprised to see him take a win here, but it's not a given. I expect the first big on-track fight between him and Mav this weekend.
Rossi now sees that the title is possible this year...however unlikely....and Mav, following that bonehead crash at COTA, will be out to gain back points and take back control of the championship fight.
As always, Marc will be a threat, but right now he needs to still play the long game. Too early to be desperate and go into typical win or crash mentality.
Jlo is going to suffer on the Duc. Starting to feel bad for him...not sure where else he would go other than back to Yamaha, and that ain't happening until Rossi retires. He should just stick with it....
