I was told yesterday that all 1199s will spontaneously combust at a pre-determined time after a certain # of key cycles have been accomplished.

Who is your resource and how reliable are they?

The white smoke must be a warning shot. I'll just have to enjoy it until it blows up. Spontaneous combustion sounds exciting, hoping the display shows a countdown.

I spontaneous combust every morning and I am still running on all cylinders.:D

Why do people post stupid .... like this without giving the slightest bit of reference or evidence? .... off troll.

Nah, not a troll. Sarcasm. Just getting tired of all the "sky is falling" threads so I wanted to start one where everyone can put there ridiculous, unfounded claims of the complete and utter failure of the 1199. First it was the bike was going to be ugly, then it was the bike was going to be too expensive, then there would be no front end feel, then it was it would fall flat on it's face in the press rides, then there were never going to be any bikes delivered, then it was the white smoke, then someone put up some crap about a recall.

I'll be riding mine hopefully the second week in May.

Almost forgot, the guys that have finally taken delivery have just about all come across the same issue and so far it's the only one with any evidence to back it up. The kickstand is a PITA.

Let's keep it serious with real problems :

- you'll most likely find a tourist sitting on your ride while his girlfriend will be taking a pic (although, you can punch him and then get away with his girlfriend, if she is to your taste).

- no iPhone power line, which is a bummer. Of course, it's a SBK, so no stock GPS power line, but still. Talked to one of my mechanical man (I have many since my dealer hired many of them ;-), we share some thoughts about not going directly to the battery, but rather from the fuse box, or at least after the fuse box. There is a plug for the Ducati alarm, which may be the way to go.

- Cops will love you, because they'll watch your good looking bike, while fining you an extra because it's not justice that you own the bike and not them.

- Gays will love you too. That might be a problem for some (those who don't know a guy will always do better bj than a girl because he knows).

- It will cost a premium, because of all the accessories, fuel, insurance and all. Maintenance has been worked on, which is good, but it's a premium SBK, so...

- Roads have speed limits, cars, walkers, etc., etc. Get out you all!

That's all I see for now.

P.S. The kickstand is fine for me, I don't see what the problem. It's nice, not showy, and it blends nicely when riding.

LMAO, Well I LOL'ed. I guess the waiting is making people paranoid.

I'm not worried about white smoke, that's how it's supposed to work(decompression valve + pick up pump instead of oil bath) , if people don't understand the simple mechanical explanation for it then their tough luck. Worry away.

Our dealer here sends me the ducati bulletins on any recalls so I can let the DOC members know and he hasn't sent me any. Neither did he tell me about any when I spent 4 hrs hanging out with him yesterday. So there again no reason to worry!

If people are going to go in a tizzy over somehthing they have no evidence of or knowledge of then we should atleast be able to make a little fun of them right?

If that's how its supposed to work then it will continue for the life of the bike. I don't care if it causes absolutely no harm to the engine I want nothing to do with a bike that smokes like that - I'll cancel my deal and buy something with a better design.

However, some have suggested that it is a break-in issue and the smoke will go away after a few miles - that I can live with.

Hey guys I'm really worried about the top speed, what will my friends at Starbucks think? I'm going to lose at least one discussion of numbers! WHAT DO I DO???

Between that and the confusion of whether the DQS is a quick shifter for shaving a little time when it counts or using it like your bike has an automatic clutch around town...I don't know what to do either

Just pour a "Warren's Franken-Frap" on your bike and the speed and smoke issue will go away :D
