Hey all,
I went for a ride today, pulled over to drink some water and take a quick break. I went to start my bike, it would turn over but would not fire up. Tried several times, finally the bike fires up, would not idle very smooth and then die. Took several tries to start it again, finally got it going and starting riding. Once I get going again, it rides just fine. Bike its totally stock with just over 100 miles on it. Has anyone else experienced this with the V2??
Thanks in advance

Yes. Several of us had the exact same things. If you search some of my posts I described what happened in detail. Took it into dealer 2-3 times. Ultimately removing the charcoal filter and only using brand name gas has solved the problem. I only use Phillips 76, Shell and sometimes Texaco. Anything else, even the premium octane isn’t a guarantee and these bikes are very picky about what they drink. Good luck! I know it’s frustrating. Mine died in the rain at dusk and I almost got run over! Btw this started happening right around 600 miles for me. I’m almost to 5000 now and it’s running great.

I had a similar issue last year. I rode it my destination fine. It sat for 40 minutes and when I tried to start it, it wouldn't fire up. I had two friends help push start it down hill to get it to kick over and start. I rode it home and let it sit for f few days. I scheduled an appointment with my local dealership and got it to start with no problem and rode it in. The dealer did some software updates and said they couldn't find any problems.

Two days ago I rode it to my destination and it wouldn't start again when I went to leave. It had been sitting for an hour and not hot outside that day. I'm taking into the dealer again to see if they can diagnose it. The bike is stock except for the fender eliminator. I hope this problem doesn't continue for such a new bike.

I've also noticed that the problem was worse the emptier the gas tank got, particularly if it sat in the sun. Now I refill around 80-90 miles on the trip meter just to be safe.

It’s vapor lock. The EVAP system is not working right. When it’s hot and not starting, open up the tank...if you hear a whoosing sound as air enters it..that’s the problem. Aprilias are really bad with this too....

I thought that too but wasn’t the case with mine. It was a very elusive problem that was difficult to reproduce at the dealership because it needs to get hot and sit in the sun to cause failure. Luckily mine has been running great once they did some diagnostic resets and ditched the Evap canister.

I'll see if my dealership mechanic is willing to remove the evap canister. I asked them on another Ducati I had and they wouldn't do it.

Mine was reluctant as well but finally decided to give it a try. They took it off and had me ride for a month or so. When I came back with no issues they just left it off.

Had my annual service performed on Saturday. The dealership Ducati tech did a software update, cleared the service light, among other check list items. I took the bike for a short ride yesterday in 74 degree F temperature and parked at my location. Went to start it 15 minutes later and it took 8 attempts to start. I had to open the fuel fill cap and close it, then the bike started up. My patience with this issue is decreasing rapidly.

Removing California (i.e., evap canister) from my V2 was one of the first things I did.

My hot start issue persists on my V2. Has anyone else had more issues with their bike not starting?

Remove the evap canister and see if it resolves your issue. I have noticed that this bike pukes out gas easily, even when not topping off the tank. It stands to reason that the evap canister (if you ride in warm weather) is going to have lots of gas inside since it can't convert to fumes to be burnt in the motor very quickly. Evap canisters create starting issues when full of gas or when lines are clogged, or when charcoal backs up into your tank. I believe just about everyone who has removed the evap canister has seen their hot start issues disappear. My hot start issues were embarrassing and removing the evap canister instantly solved the problem for me (and a few weeks later a tune/pipe/air filter helped even more). Even if you do not plan on keeping the evap canister off, you can reroute the lines (properly) for testing.

If you already have the canister removed and still have hot start issues, then I am not sure what to check.

I'll also add that all three of my Ducatis had starting issues until I removed their canisters. I just need a catch can for the V2 since it spits out gas every single ride.

If you are having starting issues with the EVAP canister installed, try opening the fuel door and venting some of the fumes.

After you remove the EVAP canister the tank never builds pressure since its venting to the atmosphere.
