I've just stepped off the bike after having had the suspension tuned for my weight (83kg with gear) and for road riding. I had asked for the pre-load to be backed off but he did the whole shebang and loaded full electronic settings for Street, Sport and Track. Really happy with the results. I mean REALLY! A 2 hour ride home (north) from Penrith via Katoomba, including some pretty rough bitumin, confirmed I'm no longer getting volleyed in the nuts by a cricket bat.
Street mode is fully plush and defaults to Fixed settings. The Sport and Track modes default to Dynamic so as to utilise the sport-biased electronics. Sport mode is my normal choice for spirited road riding. Track is for really good roads or for the odd track day although my fork spring pre-load, he said, is now softer than ideal for the track.
Interesting point: he was VERY careful with the blue anodising to avoid scratching. Taped the tubes and avoided actually contacting the blue surface with the tool. (Made me wonder about some of you guys that have opted for anodised wheel nuts - they must cop one helluva bashing when you take them off with a rattle gun from 230 Nm.)
When I picked the bike up we talked for more than an hour about exactly what he did and why. This experience was gold for me. I'm aware of, and interested in, suspension "science" but have never played with it (and don't have the tools anyway) so chose to engage somebody with expertise. So glad I did. Really fantastic enhancement has transformed the bike but as he explained it is a package of baseline settings, tailored for me, that I can tweek via the electronics or can go back to him if I need help.
