Variobar

I've thought about clipons too. Having ridden the 1199 for 2yrs straight, I forgot what a comfortable position felt like until I got my cbr. Feel like I can go hours on that bike but an hour or so tops on the 1199 without feeling discomfort. Probably has a lot to do with body positioning but it's not just that. Definitely the bike. I'll live with it though since I don't ride long distance with it anyway but if I did, I'd definitely consider that mod.

Having had sportbikes with better-sorted rider triangles, I know what you mean. It's a positioning thing, due to the relationship between seat, pegs and bars; just puts you off balance a bit which leads to pointless discomfort. I never liked the stock clipons either; too flat and wide for my taste. I wasn't looking for much in the way of added height, but wanted to get something that could be tweaked to suit me better ergonomically.

I went with Speedymoto's, and vastly prefer the ergo's now. They have about 2cm of rise at the fork clamp, but I'm running more drop and sweep so the bar ends are as low or lower than stock. They're fiddly to get where you want them as they are very adjustable, but they're working with stock parts; no hose extenders, etc. I looked at a lot of clipons, and am happy I went this route as they did just what I wanted.

on my Italy/France trip i drove up to 600Km day

i have an eye on good egonomy

the 2004 Yamaha R1 was the most comfortable supersportbike ever
the except this identic 2006 model has got 3cm lower handlebars
sounds little, but believe me this made a huge difference

The variobar is now available for the H9 1299 with 87mm rise
I will buy one for my machine

I don't know how the Gilles engineers managed that it works well

It comes with a TÃœV Gutachten (engineers of the German state authority
certified that its legal and secure)

There isn't a big choice of bikes that combine a 2 cylinder in sporty chassis
Enduros don't fit to my driving style with their very soft front spring

Did you get these or anyone else? Would like some feedback on use :)

I used a set of Apex bar risers on my old R1, lots of flexibility on the height and positions.

I did have to get new brake lines, clutch and throttle cables and re-route some of the electrical connections to each handlebar.

Apex 3" Riser Clip-on Set with 7/8" Bar

I wouldn't do it on my 1299.

So while we are all bitching about having the right bike,

My 1299S mostly sees track use only.

For spirited street rides, the Aprilia Tuono V4 does the duty, with the ability to pack for a weekend using a Ventura removable luggage rack.

For slightly longer stuff, the Multistrada handles that.

On a scale in the twisty street stuff,

Panigale 9.5/10
Tuono 8.5/10
Multistrada 7.5/10

All of each provide an amazing amount of fun and ridiculous corning capability, loaded/unloaded on the street.

I have them and for me, they gave me the what I wanted. A sportbike I could ride all day without any back issues. That being said as addressed earlier, it's a total custom installation with many pieces being modified or made and I run a short fairing. Yes I took a Dremel to an out of the box CF nose and winged it. You also have to cut the wind screen to match. It looks factory. I actually like the look better than stock. So regardless of how nuts you want to go on details, it's a bit of work at least to do it right.

Well if you buy vario bars and then have to machine and make parts anyway, go have a word with your dealer and see if they can get you a set of the new supersport handle bars?

I'm pretty certain if you have some decent engineering skills you could make those work and they really would look factory? To be fair, from the picture, I don't think there would be hardly any machine work to make this fit. Just a thought.

Looks like your still going to have a fairing clearance issues with those. Additionally it looks like you would need a bit more fork tube above the triple to clamp the bars than the Panigale has.

Yeah, the fairing side is pretty obvious. But I would be inclined to try steal most of that front end for the updated look personally.

That top triple still clamps the fork tubes though, both 43 mm on the SS and the Pani. In fact if you look from another angle, that triple slopes down so you possibly don't need more fork tube above. It may allow you to bring the front up slightly higher too. Failing that, get the front end re-srpung to balance out the drop so that you don't pitch the bike forward anymore, which is also obviously what you're not trying to do......... if it fits? Front wheel is the same size on the SS as the Pani, just have to check the spacing.

I can see there's some work here, I was just putting up some ideas.

It's just what I can see. I don't require it, but it looks like a viable option. If it was something I needed, this is the direction I would be looking.

So thats a top triple clamp and the two handlebar brackets. The bars look like the originals would fit straight in, I would think they are a standard item across the board. That will save you a lot of messing around

I'm pretty sure a man of your calibre could pull this off if you wanted to......... or at least confirm if I'm talking rubbish?!?! :D

If it works it would look factory and be functional, win - win
