And when fast is the style of the day, I encourage something a bit different. Bone stock 1907 Baldwin Locomotive

I built one of those at half the cost . I will make a list of the components but mostly old cans and old heater .

That the beauty of it. You don't need much and its very low tech. It was probably a perfect project for you. You should do a build list. I hear they are popular and who doesn't want a steam engine

CnC Caliper Hangar

Hey Endo,

Did you make the rear cnc caliper hangar for your 1199 or did you have someone machine it? I know Corse Dynamics made one but no where to be found.

Had to make it. 64mm spacing on the P4-24. OPP had one in their catalog that should have fit but I was never able to get my hand on it. The Brembo 84mm billet is really excellent had less than half the cost of the P4 24. I had a second P4-24 left from the Honda build so I used it. Throw some Ti hardware on direct replacement caliper and its a bad ... little unit for 500 bucks and its a bolt on. Otherwise, its time for a trip to the machine shop. I have the CAD somewhere. I used the Brake Tech rear floater.

Yeah I have run into the same luck nothing to be found off the shelf. I have a billet 84mm and ti hardware in all the right places. Front and rear Brake Tech floater rotors on my 1199R I have always ran Jeff's stuff best around. I tried contacting Corse Dynamics but 0 luck so will custom machine one at work.

are you guys using the rear brake enough where the billet is an upgrade necessary item? or is there another reason for the upgrade?

Im not. Just staying upright is enough fro me right now. I just have a set "build list" of parts I use whenever I build anything. The rear for me has always been the P4-24. Super light, pretty trick but you do need the bracket. The new 84 HP billet OEM replacement is a great caliper and is lighter that the race P2-34 if you swap the bolts as the pistons in the 84 HP are aluminum vs Ti for the Race caliper. The P4 24 is a bunch lighter than that. I do have a couple of the OEM 84 HP's and its very effective at stopping the bike if you needed to but probably no more effective that the stock caliper. So in a nutshell if you have the $$ and you like the look, upgrade but its statistically insignificant. I do have a new P2 24 Caliper and bracket but its stupid expensive ($2000.00 + the bracket) And one of the new Moto 3 rears (equally as stupid) for a project I am working on now. A lot of guys like the P4 24 as its not very powerful and if you trail brake, you can get a bit sloppy (my middle name) with it without locking the rear. Best bang for the buck if you want an upgrade is the 84 mm HP. It looks very nice. Something Ducati should have put on the SL but we will leave that topic alone.

holy crap, that repsol honda (P2 24) uses rubber lines?!

ps: thank you for the info, endo! i can definitely appreciate that the billet ones look amazing, the nickel coated ones even nicer, but I rarely use the rear as it is (aside from holding me at a stop light) that I probably wouldn't do this mod unless I found the caliper for super cheap!

Yeah like Endo I always have a complete parts list for every bike I have built. Right now currently building a 2016 1199R it's close to being 100% done when I get a chance will do a parts list on here.

Endo have you used this Brembo rear brake master cylinder at all on a Panigale ?

Here is the little gem. If your f'd in the head like me, get one. They are pretty damn cool. I did need to nod it slightly to work with the LT rear sets. Also made the plunger pin assembly from magnesium and Ti with a 7075 rod end. I know, Not as nice as nice as the stock SL but sometimes you just have to slum it.

I love that you would do this , it's very cool. For me there is a big missing link though which Mutt alludes to earlier. You were very vocal about building a better bike than Ducati but a massive part of development is mapping and the resulting rideability and how well the engine will last under abuse. The only real way to get that right is with test riders getting hard data on how it performs and the resulting laptimes.

It's not so much a knock at you, more that you are doing a dis-service to Ducati implying that they would throw a bike together and sell it to customers for £70k . You're obviously massively skilled compared to the average bike builder but you have basically bought a load of stuff and thrown it together. I'm not meaning that in the offensive way, just that you havn't tested it under hard use or even set it up on a dyno. If you gave your bike to me to test I might blow the engine after five laps.

I spoke with TG99 about the R and Superleggera engines at Silverstone when Ducati did the 1299 marketing day about how the engines have been developed and how well they were lasting. It was pretty much this discussion that led to me buying my R as I knew it would have a hard life and I wanted some confidence it would take the abuse. I wouldn't have that confidence in something that hadn't had the development. Fingers crossed it doesn't explode next time out now I've said that :)
