the best of both world , once you ride a VMAX there is no going back , mine was 2009 and it is really sensational .

here is the pictures

Its amazing, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, same bike different paint job.....

1199 oil filter $40.00 (Ebay)

Vmax oil filter 9.00. (Yamaha)

I love a cheap date!!

Awesome machine. Was just at the bike show recently and it was in the top 3 of bikes that had the most attention.I had a deal done on one and was all set but backed out at the last minute. Not sure what they go for in the US but it's near 24k to get one off the floor in Canada and I just won't pay 24k for a Yamaha. Arguably worth it when you compare it to others...but I went Diavel instead. Love that bike though, one of the few non italian bikes that can really stir the soul. I had a Gen 1 vmax and loved it.

How does the performance compare between the two bikes? The V-Max was considered a beast in its day, so it would be interesting to know how roll-on, and top end pull compares with the Panigale.

My time has been limited on the Vmax (winter here in New Jersey). The few rides I've been on were not very spirited but I will tell you that the throttle response is not as violent as my 1199. But the bike is new and I'm not trying to go crazy right now. More to come as the weather breaks.

@Dylzduc I got a fantastic deal on the Vmax. I paid $19,100.00 USD out the door. This price included all MV fees, taxes, set up, a 4 year Yamaha extended warranty, and a sissy bar.

I was a big fan of the Diavel when it came out, but the Vmax is truly an iconic motorcycle. I will never bash another bike. I'm all about riding and camaraderie. Real bikers all know and respect the Vmax. There is a sense of pride involved as well. I find that both the Vmax and the 1199 are never "not welcome" wherever I go. Both draw attention but the 1199 is truly the belle of the ball while the Vmax is a bikers bike.

Is it spring yet???

How many miles do you get per tank of gas? How is it for 2-up riding? I am looking at a Diavel, but the Vmax has my interest.

Vmax and Ducati are rare bikes that you can park in any crowd..Harley crowd included and be welcome. I had my Diavel parked outside a Harley dealership and had a crowd around it and even a few clubbers givin kudos on it. Mechanics even came out for a look...very well received!! Vmax is a legend and as soon as a decent deal comes my way, one will be in my garage!

Diavel mileage is kinda crap and for two up...nahhh! I don't think the max would be much better..if at all for 2 up. Vmax has more motor than the Diavel for sure and would pull away on straights, but Diavel would leave it for dead..and badly once any kind of twists in the road happen. A win win with whatever you choose, just different beasts.

Low to high 30's for the Vmax unless you baby it. I'd prefer the Diavel any day since it does well in the twisties and is a better all around bike...cost is a different story though :D

I had the Diavel before I got my Pani. Love both. Diavel has more low in torque and feels like it would rip your arms off if reckless in 1st or 2ed above 4K.

I have a fond memory of riding my first bike ('87 Ninja 600) in downtown Atlanta circa 1989, when an original Vmax pulled up next to me. We nodded knowingly to each other and he proceeded to pull one of the smokiest burnouts I've ever seen. That V4 roar is still memorable 20+ years later.

Here's a head to head comparison of the Diavel and the Vmax: Ducati Diavel vs. Star V-Max | MC Comparo - Motorcyclist Magazine

In 89 I had a new GSXR1100 and my buddy had a V MAX we went off heads up through four gears and it was a dead heat both times, I was impressed, they sound wicked with an exhaust system on them.

What does that thing weigh? Never really got the vmax. Sorry my.02 Diavel all the way if you must have a sport cruiser but a very nice 1199

The bike weighs like 685 lbs (wet). I've wanted a Vmax sine 1985. None of us need to justify the bikes we own, like, or love because its all personal choice. As far as the Diavel goes, its a great bike but it's not an icon. It has great features, rides great, and is awesome to look at but its not a Vmax...just like every other liter bike out there..... they're nice, but they're no Panigale. Its how I view the food chain when it comes to motorcycles.

When you see the Vmax, you know exactly what it is. Even people who know nothing about bikes look at it in awe. Plus you can't argue with the power that the Vmax creates. I also love not paying Ducati prices for service, parts, and accessories. The Vmax is a Yamaha..... which means it's pretty much bulletproof. I own a Ducati so I know first hand what it costs to service and I also know what it costs to service a Yamaha. I think you know where this is going..... The Diavel will always be.... proxime accessit

Enjoy your 2012 Diavel. Ride the piss out of it!!

Actually I don't own a Diavel. I have a Harley for cruising and the Panigale for speed and a KTM for supermoto. I think the vmax has always been cool. Kinda like a 6 ton Bently with 750 hp
