Way off topic but to me, very cool. Last of the great Americans

I popped over to Honolulu for the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. This is probably the last time all of the remaining ships crew members will assemble. Two of the remaining 7 Arizona survivors recently passed and were entombed at the memorial on Wednesday. I was honored to be there at the ceremony and also to meet the remaining survivors from several ships. These are truly the last of the greatest generation. Give them a thought if you get a moment.

Very nice . It's a pity you have not had any great Americans after World War Two .

Well one could argue that point and I would argue that we just keep lowering the scale. It's like the trophy for 15th place and the physical fitness requirements for our police departments.

I have a fracture at L4 that limits much of what I can do. Why don't you post up some pics of how you do it so we can all learn or do you not have a skirt that short?

I know right? I post some pics of a pretty cool event and some individuals worthy of exemplary status and all Mutt can do is check me out. I heard the rumors but I didn't think he would go public. Mutt, the wife suggested that she goes out tomorrow and gets me a Speedo and we send you a few 8x10s for Christmas. Hey I do what I can for fellow Ducati enthusiasts.

I'm sure he meant no harm.

Besides, he is thankful that USA saved Them from Nazi in WWII.

Thanks for sharing this endo. Seems as not to many people even know about December 7th these days as it hasn't been commercialized.

LOL no harm. I just consider the source. I should have considered that our WWII vets and the people that actually built this place that everyone pisses on today are in the eyes of our newer generations "no match" for the current crop of "great Americans" The Kardashians, Bieber, and some guy that makes 10m a year to bounce an orange ball. What was I thinking.

You can do other things besides serve in the military to be a great America. I would wager some of those basketball guys donate more money, time and resources to charitable work, poor communities and other uplifting endeavors than some of those great Americans you speak of. But you mention only Basketball, no soccer, baseball, CEOs of corporations? Hmmm. I'm done. back to motorcycles. The Kardashians and Bieber I don't follow nor care about.

true and good point but the difference is that those who serve in the military go to war like WWII and sometimes dont come back.

If you ask those "basketball guys"... you have 2 choices - your life or all your money...pretty sure they will give all their money. :D

but I understand your point. All Americans (or as person) should contribute to society in some ways...thats what matter.

I think if you ask most people, they would choose not to go into the military. ...., my father (Air Force) and step father (Marines) both told me get an education and you don't have to go to the military. Both served in Vietnam. I'm not good at taking orders, so the military for me was a no go. I did want to fly jets in the air force since I was a youth, but after loosing my eye sight in my left eye to a childhood accident, that dream was crushed.

I'm not sure I would tell them to not join at all. I would however tell them to choose an MOS that translates to a real world skill. Engineer, medic, legal, etc.

I spent 8 years as a knuckle dragger with most of it being in the Middle East. I did a lot of cool .... but I have zero desirable skills for a normal 9-5 job stateside.

So now I'm stuck contracting in the same Middle Eastern .... holes I was in when active. Doing the same job, just more money. Go to school kids.

All respect is due to those that choose to join. I have cousins active at this very minute. But yes, go to school and get an education.

One day I will get to that memorial. One day. It's a fact of life that the WWII era vets and civvies are different gravy to what's around us today.

The old boy who used to live down my road was just the the guy who walked like shaggy of scooby doo. Used to walk his dog up and down the road everyday, all weathers. When he found out I joined the Air Force he became far more open about his life to me and my dad. Turns out he was Ex SAS and SOE during the war. Basically made Rambo look like an incompetent coward. The reason he walked like he did was due to various injuries sustained from combat, parachuting, and training. Not once did he moan about it. Didn't ask for help despite pain. Always asked my folks after me especially when I was deployed. He'd done and seen things no human should have And asked for nothing in return. Where as the cretins around today....

And no you don't have to join the military in order to be great. In fact there are some utter cockwombles that join up. But there aren't many jobs that involve you writing a cheque to your country and it's population 'for upto and including your life' hoping it never gets cashed! Cockwomble or not!

I got an education but still joined as I felt that was the least I could do for my country that enables me to make the choices to screw up my life as I please. Being born in a third or maybe fourth world country those choices wouldn't have been mine.

Way to many don't have a stake in their freedoms when they've always had it. That's the problem with today's generations, they've been spoiled thinking their freedoms are their birthright. Let some poor uneducated dufus protect it for them.

agree.

oh and just because you are in the military = no education... If you are a Officer, you have to have a college degree and most if not all have Master by Major. By Colonel or General, multiple Masters and even PHD.

I was sent to get my Master by the Military and I am planning to get 2nd one in few years.
