Weak Soft fork springs on V2?

My 2021 V2 has about 200 miles on it and I am trying to set up the front suspension. Under hard braking, the front bottoms out (zip tie about 10 mm from the bottom, which I believe is bottomed out). I increased the compression and preload to almost max (1/2 out for compression and 2 out for preload) and front end chatter is gone, but I still bottom out and have almost no room left on settings. I am 170 lbs in street gear, so are the V2 springs really that weak? Maybe bumping up the fork oil will help with compression, but I would have expected more from the springs.

Is anyone else bottoming out the stock V2 forks under hard braking with near-max preload and comp?

I weigh 220, and I recently had new springs put in…holy .... what a difference! No more hard dives when breaking hard. You are within the weight range of the currrent springs on your bike. Maybe have a shop fit you to the bike? I did that when I first bought mine, but due being ”fat” (Haha), I was at the hire end of the weight scale for the stock suspension set up. That set up really helped and got Me thru the break in period and then some.
 
I weigh 195 lbs.
I took all but two turns OUT of my fork preload.

I ride and brake hard and have 15 mm to go using a zip tie on my fork. I spent 40 bucks and had Dave Moss set up my dampers. It made a huge difference.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I subscribe to Dave Moss and have used his info to tune my V2 (but not directly with him). Keep in mind, when I say hard braking, I mean race track hard braking but on the street. In other words, I am lifting the rear wheel off the ground under hard braking, or at least wiggling the rear if using more electronics. Under those conditions, I am bottoming out the forks even though I have 99% preload and comp set on a V2 with 200 miles on the clock. Either these springs are weak (intended for people who don't brake hard), or there is something wrong with my forks. I just cannot imagine running 17 of 40+ clicks of preload and not bottoming out.

Hmm, if others are not bottoming out with hard braking (lifting the rear wheel) then I will have to consult Dave and see if he thinks something is broken. Hopefully, someone can confirm that they are lifting or wiggling the rear wheel under hard braking and not bottoming out the stock forks.

Where are your forks compression damping settings at. I found adjusting the flow of oil through the damping circuits made a big difference.
Hey Dave only charges 40 bucks for setting things up, if I were you I’d go down that road.

Compression is 1/2 turn out (i.e., almost full damping). This thing should be a rock and feel like crap with comp nearly all the way in (restricting) and the preload also near max. Instead, it feels great! No chatter and handles like a dream under hard braking, but is bottoming out (which won't feel like a dream if the front tucks). I tested every setting for comp and preload from 100% out to 100% in and I still bottom out (when lifting the rear wheel). Rebound is also adjusted according to Dave's V2 video (and also tried more and less).

sounds like your on top of it. You may find personalized setting for your weight etc may help.

the way the rear suspension is set up also has a bearing on the front.

40 bucks = personalized settings.
Again I’d venture down that road. Moss transformed my bike. Best 80 bucks ( I took the 30 minute whatsapp call) I’ve spent on my bike.
 
I have not contacted Dave yet, but watching more of his (paid) videos, I see that experienced hard braking riders are likely to need a 1Kg spring upgrade in the forks for the 959. I presume the V2 is the same. It doesn't sound like I'll need full inserts - just springs, but Dave will have to help me be sure.
 
The price of the springs+Oil+labor was not far from what they charged me for the inserts..

I'll do the work myself, so springs only will probably be cheaper than inserts; however, I have not priced them out just yet. I have some fork work to do on my cafe racer and groms, so it will be a good time to do them all at once.

If you bottom your forks under hard braking the springs are too soft for you, period. Compression damping is not the answer here. Get some stronger springs.

bottoming out is not an area to .... around with for safety reasons. I can only speak for my v4 but the stock springs were way too soft. Stronger springs helped a lot.
 
Yep.

They cost as much as 8 PSI reverse wound triple throw down pro stock valve springs with the super secret coating/peening whatever they do to em so they don’t break at 19k rpm
 
From who, the dealer?

The springs are $150 a pair from Ducati Omaha. Replacing them for something more suitable is on my short list...

parts (springs and oil) it is nearly 190-200 eur (not usd)
Then, dealer hour rate here is 90 eur/h.. don’t know how much will charge, I think 2 hours minimum...)

got the Andreanis for a bit less than 500 (cartridges, oil and installation)
 
I don't know where you're getting your springs but for what they cost I could use the gym membership and skip the afternoon snack...
 
A note on brake pressure too.....had a break through last summer after a Penguin school, a hair of brake pressure to settle the front before adding a fist full of deceleration had me braking harder and deeper and a lot more consistent nailing my markers with less rear lift.
