What a pile...

I had a Yamaha R1 that had a whole host of electrical problems, including a smoked fuel pump relay, followed by a failed fuel pump (imagine that). Never did I go blasting Yamaha, or did I ever think for a minute that it wasn't a great bike. I just spent an afternoon, took it apart, figured out what was wrong, and fixed it.

+1
I had two R1s between by 998 and 1198. They BOTH had ECU problems and the dealer replaced them under the factory warranty. Seems like yamaha would have fixed it between my first 2007 and my 2nd 2008. Still both great bikes. Not as good as my 1198 that replaced them though.

I still think it's a great bike, but I'm still gonna complain about something if it fails the first week I have it.

My R1 was a POS jinxed bike - there will always be the odd lemon in a bunch of oranges, I wrote it off/sold it moved on :) no probs with all my bikes since and I have every bit of faith I will get years of enjoyment when I get my R :)

We'll give you a hallway pass on this one bud. :p

Hope you get it up and running so you can start posting how much fun your having on it.
I took it for a ride yesterday with no issues. I really do enjoy riding it, looking forward to getting in on the track in the spring.

Glad to hear it's running now gigantor, just took my one out yesterday, it hasn't moved since I did a trackday at donington in July. Just turned the key and pressed the starter and away she went. I thought mine might not start as it has an alarm and is not being charged in anyway.

The first time I saw a 1199 my friend had just bought it. Immediately, he had many problems. Besides 4 recalls, he had dry rotting wire covers on his forks, his bike burns oil, he has melted fairings, and hard starts. I knew the 1199 wasn't as reliable as some of the other motorcycles I've had. But knowing all of that, I still bought one. Now I have a fogging dash, hard starts, and broken left controls.

But I'm not angry. I knew problems would occur. I love the bike so much, these problems are acceptable to me. It doesn't make it okay that the 1199 has so many issues. But it's up to each individual to decide if the bike is for them.

So my question is to the guys who are really pissed with their 1199's. Did you really expect it to be as reliable as a Honda or Suzuki when you bought it?

Very much worth it, it seems! The video was quite entertaining as well, although I did find myself wanting to see the last 10 seconds of the video.

I'll re-post after the statute of limitations runs out. :)
