What fits Ducati 899 from the 1199?

Ok, we have some progress - the 1199 flat/progressive linkage swap is CONFIRMED! This is my 899 with the flat rate setup from an 1199 mounted on it, everything bolted right on!

My 899 just arrived yesterday, so we'll get started tearing it down and answering some of these questions shortly. Up first is fitting the F/P adjustable rear linkage from the 1199 over to the 899, I'm pretty sure it will bolt right on now that I've taken some measurements, we just need to actually bolt it on to confirm for sure.

Curious about this.

Given the existing geometry on the bike, how does it appear the 899 is set up - F or P?

The 899 stock linkage is the same as the P (Progressive) setting on the 1199. This is good for street riding and riding with a passenger. For optimal traction on corner exits for spirited track riding the F (Flat-Rate) setup is better.

Hey Jarel,

Great stuff, thanks for posting the pics. I'm trying to swap the swing arm from the 1199 (I've already ordered one -used-) wondering if you think, given the other suspension components fitting if this seems like a bolt on item as well. Any other thoughts from your experience so far would be appreciated. Hoping to have the parts in soon to begin attempting the swap.

I'm curious if the base forks will swap over from the 1199 to the 899..

Before anyone says anything there base forks with Ohlins internals.:)

Why would any one want to put the 1199 swing arm on the 899? If there is one item that is superior on the 899 to the 1199 it is the swing arm. It is both stronger and lighter.

What is the weight difference between the swingarms considering that the 899 is shorter?

I must confess I took a bit of a chance, but size for size double sided swing arms are usually more rigid and lighter than single sided swing arms. :p

Lol, I was wondering because I had read that the single was lighter and more expensive to produce. :)

The shorter the arm the stiffer it should be. Although using a larger diameter single arm with different materials can add rigidity to a longer arm, if necessary, with a commensurate lightening of our wallets. :D

I don't have exact weights, but the 899 swingarm alone vs. 1199 swingarm alone the 1199 one is lighter, BUT when you include the full assembled weight with hub and axle, etc. then the 899 unit is lighter. So bottom line the 899 one is lighter because it's the entire assembly on the bike that matters, not just the raw swingarm.

I'm going to go ahead and call it. One day, a hero will be born and he will defy the flock by transplanting a dual-sided swing arm onto their 1199... They will be king among men!

Single sided swing arms are primarily used in endurance racing as it greatly facilitates rear wheel changing etc. and has become a Ducati design signature. The 1199 would have been even lighter if it had a (same length) double sided swing arm.

If I could have used my BST rear wheel on a double sided swing arm and if the 899's swing arm was the same length (not shorter) the Dragon Lady would have sported one already.

Do the wheels from an 1199s/r fit the 899 and the marzocchis from the base 1199? Thanks

I can't say for certain, but I am pretty sure you can't swap the rear wheels. The 899 is a 180/60 and the 1199 has a 200/55. That is why if you put the single sided swing arm on the 899, you have to replace your wheel with one from the 1199.

Thanks SinJin thats the same rear wheel size as the motard sp though hmmm. Might work.

Damn. So is there a decent new lighter wheel option for the 899?
