Well into the 3rd year/summer with the Panigale now and after 12,000 phenomenal miles it's not going to be long before making a decision for 2015 and deciding whether to stick with the current bike or upgrade.

Ducati appear (to me anyway) to be running in 2 year cycles. 2012 for the Panigale, 2014 for the Panivagina (sorry, couldn't resist :p), so 2016 for the next major upgrade to the 1199?

If there is a major upgrade due in 2016 then I'll almost certainly hold off for next year. IMO it's hard to imagine how they can improve the bike significantly and my guess would be an evolution of the 1199 rather than a complete overhaul. I'm guessing the next bike will come with more electronic wizardry, less weight more power... I suspect the next 'big' thing though, for road riders at least, will be semi active suspension.

Given that most of my riding is on the road that would be a big draw. Which models will it be fitted to though? Most of what I've read on the HP4 suggests it doesn't give a significant advantage on the track whilst adding weight. So will Ducati consider putting it on the S as well as the R if the main benefit is found on the road?

I know this is just speculation but I'd be interested to get other views on when you think the next bike will be released and which improvements we can expect.

More interesting question is what kind of oil will the new Ducati Superbike run? I heard Shell Rotella is really good, but a friend said that it's all about Royal Purple, and then another swears by Amsoil, can we discuss that for a while and come to a firm conclusion??

Hey jarelj you get to speculate all day with customers, everyday at work, let him have some fun.

Cruise control and I'm in. :D

The S. I think this bike was designed as the S model. And the base and R came later.

I think Ducati will just evolve the 1199 as long as they can. Like the 916, it'll be a while before the bike is obsolete. Should be plenty of room to evolve. The engine is the only part that defines the bike. Everything else is easy to swap and upgrade.

A V4 Desmosedici might return to the lineup. Make enough of them to meet World Superbike rules?????

I would say the next thing on the Panigale would be wheelie control ala SL as we are all automatically invalidating our warrantees if we give our Panigales just a little bit of stick and it wheelies... :p

I always thought that the 1198 was a beautiful bike and hard to beat in terms of looks... and then Ducati came out with the 1199... sexier, better fluid lines with a beautiful timeless design...

I have no idea what they will come up with next... but I can't wait to see it.

1/4" more stroke, and a true dry sump oiling system so we can wheelie to our hearts content.

I'd like to see:
-datalogger stock on the S+ models
-thumb lever on the left side to control the rear brake
-auto downshift blipper (not that i would use it, it takes the fun out of riding, but could be handy sometimes)
-chromoly steel seat subframe like the World Superbikes.
-thin tin oil catch pan
-wheelie control
-starter button cruise control
-throttle control, reduction while leaned over, like the Kawa World Superbikes cylinder kill while leaned over. Maybe dial back one of the throttle bodys while leaned over.
-Ducati Course edition bubble pipe.
-your choice of race seat or comfort seat stock. Or the terrible 899 stock seat for shorties.
-better pegs
-maybe a vent hole in the fairing where the oil level sight glass is.
-boomier exhaust options, like the cored stock exhaust. Termi and Akra's are still too quiet. I live where the average Harley is as loud as a top fuel dragster.
-not sure how tuneable the ECM is? But it should be completely tuneable on the Dyno like a PowerCommander or Ford.

And most of all.........reverse compatability of all new parts with the older 1199's.

Seriously though:

-For maximum tune ability, a Mass Airflow Sensor fuel injection system, instead of the Speed Density system that is currently used.

-A cassette gearbox.

Plus all of the other good changes mentioned.

A cassette gearbox would be 5 more pounds and a weaker case most likely.

My gears seem spaced perfectly. Not sure it's worth the tradeoff.
