Just turned 17k on my 1199. Hope to get at least 50k out of it before it needs any major motor work. Did my desmo service back in July, had the ducati shop check the valves and everything was in spec. They charged me $300 for the valve check and I did everything else.

Ride it how you want. I put 1500-2000 miles of track/race miles on my R annually. My Multi saw 6,000 miles its first year and that was April through Oct. My FE has 1700 miles in four years. My 959 saw 7,200 miles in 8 months.
At 3400 miles i had valves checked on my race bike and were still in speck. That bike saw 600 miles for a break in for the street and was converted to is current form (racebike) so its had a pretty happy life.

Yes, took off fairings, subframe and radiator so they could get to the valves easily.

Pick it up used. It had 3200 on it in May. I just got the 1 year service notice, but hold off. I'll be at 7500 soon so.
