Wheel refinishing

I would like to refinish my Tricolore wheels to match my Ohlins forks (gold), and was wondering in the central California area (or any area for that matter), where is the best place to send them for 1) quality finish, 2) no structural related issues from application of incorrect finishes that effect wheel strength, and 3) best color match. Caps Bright Hot they are in the Madera area, they do many different coatings and are by far the best in the industry.

Centeroff, is the powder coat system they use safe for the structural integrity of the wheels? I have read that hot powder coating can negatively effect wheel strength. Also, does the powder coating have any sheen to it, or is it a flat type of finish? When you see quality aftermarket wheels such as Marchessini aluminum forged wheels, and others, are they powder coated or painted? By the looks of the OEM wheels on my Tricolore, it appears they are painted. Thanks a lot for the assistance and the lead.

They have multiple levels of gloss, they will be able to tell you exactly how hot they heat the piece, it would be up o the owner of the parts to determine if that would affect the heat treat on the piece. Last time I changed color on my wheels was on a Gixxer and I shot them with catalyzed urethane, the wheels never chipped.

I just received a response from the Caps Bright Hot Powder Coat company you recommended. After they are chemically stripped of powder coating/paint, they heat the wheel to 400 degrees F to bake on the powder coating. In addition, all bearings, seals, weights, and sensors must be removed. He also mentioned there is little choice as far as gold colors are concerned. I am leaning towards painting the wheels to be safe. Does anyone know of a good wheel refinishing company where I can have the aforementioned catalyzed urethane paintwork done? Is the OEM finish on the Tricolore/S wheels paint as I suspect? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I would have them media blasted to remove the finish them just have them painted to exactly the color you're after. I wouldn't powdercoat the forged wheels personally.

I have aread a low temp powdercoat is safe, but what temp is low temp? That I don't know.

The painting yes. I would get them blasted with baking soda, which the powdercoat shop should be able to handle. Sand blasting will remove too much metal.

Next question to throw out: Anyone have a paint code (please include company name - ex: DuPont, etc) for the gold color that matches the forks/shock best? Thanks again...I am getting there.

Yes, I agree with Stw, it looks good, but I am looking a little closer to the Marchesini Forged Aluminum wheels in gold color. Thanks to all for the help so far.
