White smoke on startup

Yep I guess we'll all find out soon enough huh? Here's hoping Ducati haven't got a PR disaster on their hands.....that said, if they all go t*ts up we'll all own a little slice of history, I hear Bimota V-Dues go for a small fortune these days!

Just to add, I went to see my dealer today and asked about it. His explanation was that a small amount of oil is fired into into the cyclinders when the engine is cold and the ignition is turned on, so that the cylinders are well lubricated on startup. I'm not mechanically knowledgeable enough to know whether that is likely to be true, but it sounds feasible enough to me.

Perhaps that could be why plenty of people are not reporting smoke, because they only see the bike firing up when the engine is already warmed....?

Maybe he meant , that injector sprays more fuel to intentionally have a richer mix, thereafter induction, followed by compressed and combust.

The subsequent exhaust gas yield the leftovers HC (fuel) from the rich mix. These leftovers togather with new fresh air introduce by the secondary air valves , has a "second" chance to burnt in the exhaust stream, merely to heat-up the catalytic converter to aid it to quickly reach optimum operating temperature to do conversion. (for simple example recombining H+H+O to form water)..cold-start emmision driven

lubricating cylinders,that not likely.

Funnily enough, same dealer left me a voicemail the next day and said he'd got it wrong....and that the smoke is part of the running in process! I dunno, just goes to show most of the dealers have been in the dark all this time. Done listening to them frankly!

The first 1199S I viewed smoked like the one in the video. My Base/ABS dos not smoke at all during start up. Maybe theres some QC issues on early production bikes.
