I lived in Russia for 12 years, that's all they ride over there. Jawa is pretty horrid too.
On a lighter note, the concept of an Ural is cool. They managed to retain that Nazi Germany retro look and build upon it somehow.

I considered it earlier this year. Or rather, I looked into them for the wife. Fairly simple machines. Look easy to maintain. And a certain quirky coolness factor over that Spyder she eventually came home with.
Not exactly cutting edge. But I like that retro look to them.

My wife has a Spyder and it rides worse than an Ural would.
If I had 12k$ to spare I'd get one for those exact same reasons...the Royal Enfields are pretty cool too....

+1 - I wanted a Ural or a RE for quite a while, but have decided against it for the time being. Very cool bikes though.
