So the details on the 1299FE are out, the paint scheme has divided opinion but the engine sounds like a gem. I've owned a 996, 998S, 1098S, 1199S Tricolore, 1299S and currently a 1299S Anniversario and MS1200S ( with the occasional IL4 for good measure) and I've liked the Ducati vtwins in all their stages of evolution.
However, I think the V4 is going to be epic. Anyone else think that ?

Who has two thumbs and already rides a V4...THIS GUY!

I can't wait to see and hear it. I'll want want one right away but will probably wait till year 2.

I bought my first Panigale over the Aprillia RSV4. I've always been curious. And that tiny wheel base from the Aprillia also seems to be present in the new V4. I'm on board with this.

I know it's not the finished article, the spy shots of the V4 got me. I had my reservations, but I think this will be good.

I was a little underwhelmed at the 1299 R so I cancelled my order and put the deposit over on to the V4 R......... I know you shouldn't buy the first generation, but I also feel Ducati have a good handle on this now, they know where its at where as the Panigale were like shots in the dark for a little while until they got the engine right.

Essentially you're getting a GP15 :D

did they give pricing on the "final" panigale yet? seriously no ducati that has come out since the original 1199 has made me say i have to have that especially the "final" panigale.

the v4 ill wait till they are half off now that i learned the hard way they the bikes have 0 resale value.

until then my hp4 is the most amazing bike AND i still have an all carbon 1199s. im good.

as a matter of fact to celebrate the "final" panigale and the v4 i bought 2 wave runners.

thanks ducati for teaching me not to buy your bikes

Im pretty excited about the v4. As soon as I see more details on it then I will likely put down a deposit. I have already told my dealer to get ready for it.

I would be very interested in seeing what the V4R and (dare I say) V4 Superleggera are like. I think that both of those could be very special bikes.

I'm going to have to go with Mark on this one. Like I said before, if the motor turns out to be a good platform and MM or 2D or MoTeC makes an ECU for it, I might give it a whirl and build something. Buy a bike off the floor from this mfg?not going to happen. They do some things well. Complete motorcycle solutions I do not believe is one of them. I personally think for the money, the bikes are cheap and they do not need to be. Ducati is still running the company with a boutique brand mentality towards their customers but pumping out 55k of them annually. The current service department can't trouble shoot or fix what they make now on their high end stuff. I do not see that improving. If anything, unless you're well, "one of those guys" I would never buy a 1st year model. iPhone? Fine. Ducati not so much.

....concern over the first model year sounds like the 90's to me - there is rarely, if ever, a regular model year that goes by without issue....granted, there might be a few "consumer acceptable" type let-go's in quality control, or even the engineering dept., just to get the freshest idea sent off and out in the hands of riders, but for the enthusiast that wants it now, i say, "why wait"....get it, ride it, if people will listen, share the experience....there will always be the "new & improved" next year model no matter what you do with your purchase time clock - just my 2 cents

I was underwhelmed by the 1199 when it was released. the melted fairings, starting and stalling issues, less then stellar power band, the complaints of jittery handling and the big ugly heat shield I couldn't get past. So I waited. When the 1299 was announced, it appeared they had solved many of those issues in the motor, better and stronger power delivery, changed the geometry for better handling, more appealing bodywork, redesigned heat shield and the black exhaust cans were much nicer to look at. I bought a 2015 and it's been a great bike. I would not buy a first year to Ducati, maybe third year. Seems it takes them that long to get everything dialed in.

...ehh....ok, i see those points clear enough...but (to me) that gets a "maybe"....to each his own thought/purchase process

What kind of resale will your BMW HP4 get?

I'm kind of in the same boat with this line of thought. Sure, you can wait and wait and wait until that perfect moment, but hell, you only get 1 life to live. I just don't see throwing away some good years because "it wasn't perfect".

Honestly, this platform has seen a good 10+ yrs of R&D already in MotoGP. It's not in the same state as was the Panigale when it was manf. and delivered. They will likely be further ahead of the curve on release of the V4. Now, there will be issues, it's just hard to say how significant those issues will or won't be.

As for me, I "weighed" pretty heavily on the RSV4 before landing on the Pani. Had the electronics and **weight** (omg the weight..) been where I wanted them to be, I would have an RSV4. Once I can see some specs on the V4 and if they are close to where I hope they will be, I'll have my deposit in ASAP.
