just wanted to have a post about why do people sell there bikes within a year.

i notice the for sale thread has alot of panigale for sale trade etc...

ill understand if people have change of financial situtation and have to sell it
but theres a big lost from new to 2nd hand

so why do you feel people do it. cause i dont i working my arse off for this bike and i would of made sure its for me.

Can be lots of reasons

Depends on your situation. Could be money reasons or that you didn't like the bike or just wanted something new & have the money to do it.

I had a Streetfighter S, that I traded in for my 1199. I was going to wait another year to buy, but my dealer gave me a deal, I couldn't refuse & I got a bonus from work, so I only had my SFS for 6 months.

Some older guys buy it and find out it's not for them. Just depends on your situation & how much money you have to waste.

My forks blew out twice in a row, the first time I fell off beacuse of that, bikeless for 10 days twice, two prepayed trackdays lost.....there she goes!

Guess the 5k for the S with Ohlins would have been worth it and that's what I'll get.

It's not unusual at all for luxury items like motorcycles and boats. I've bought several used bikes with less than 1K miles on them, virtually new; in fact, that's my preferred buying tactic. If you know what you want and have patience plus cash, you can come by some great deals.

Sportbikes in particular tend to be emotional/impulse purchases, often bought against one's "better" judgment. Kind of like how some relationships start! ;) Once the heat of the moment's passed, and people are rubbing their eyes and looking across the bed/garage at their new partner in the harsh light of reality, they grudgingly figure out a way to pry themselves out of the situation. Maybe just one last blast first, eh?

And of course there are those with plenty of disposable cash, short attention spans and a need for what's next or whatever scratches their latest itch. Lots of reasons people reverse course and shed things they didn't really "need" in the first place, which just creates acquisition opportunities for others.

1100 sell

hi i bought mine in may,1199ABS, from the first day didnt like it . think it was having had a 1198 which was right for me every where.i have now put my 996 on the road so will have some fun with that for now . sold the 1199 very quickly so that was good.

I am 33 and have lusted after a Ducati since/before I passed my bike test age 18. Always had jap bikes and never been happy with them for long, always had jap bikes because of longer service intervals so put off by older Ducati's needing 3k services. Now I think a Ducati 1199 must be the answer, I think if I get a 1199 I won't get another bike for a long time.

The tri-options thing is tempting with the trade in of the R1 as well.
Took one for a test tide and loved it, first time ever ridden a Ducati.

and some people "because they can". Some people go from bike to bike - it might be the 1199 because its new and they want to ride it for a few months and then move on to the next bike they want to ride - which could be the new BMW S1000RR 2012, or something else. . . . .

When I went up to Ducati Coventry they had a 600 mile "S" in the show room. The guy bought it new, loved it until he sat on his girlfriend's 848. He decided to do a swap for an 1198 as the seating position suited him (possibly he is a gorrilla with a long body and arms :) ).

Marc, was it definitely an S or a base model.

I met a chap at JHP who bought the base as his first bike and his girlfriend bought an 848. Just wondering if its the same bloke.

Defo an S. Ticket price was £ 18,495 if I remember correctly.

the way me and my frens curb this problem is to have different bikes and swap them every now and then :)

Because sportbikes are sexy and guys think they want one, but most of them are Starbucks posers that don't really care to put up with the relatively uncomfortable nature of a sportbike. They persist for 3 or 4 months then just give up and sell it, and buy a BMW GS or a Harley. Seriously, riding a sportbike the way its meant to be ridden can be hard work, and some people just want to cruise around and have fun, and be comfortable. For that kind of riding there are better types of bikes to ride than full on sportbikes.

I've seen some < 1yo Ducs FS due to a variety of factors - divorce, kids on the way, one poor guy even needed the cash for a new kidney

How many have been built? I've seen this question asked on every forum I am on.....car and motorcycle. But reality is that the number you see for sale is a very small percent of how many have been built.

All the above plus priorities change as you go through life. Age or previous crashes can take their toll as well. It's not the most forgiving bike to ride :D
Never sold a Duc with less than 20K on the clock yet ;)
