Why I'm probably going to get the FE.

Wait, I thought the last Panigale was the fastest Panigale ever produced. Man somebody got ripped off. Who's in on a class action?

LOL Im just being a ..... Saw this at Laguna. It kinda grows on you.

It kinda does after looking at it long enough but I'm still not feeling the exhaust and the red wheels. If I change my mind and buy one, I'll dye my beard completely white and get red leather pants (or maybe green). :p

I feel like you should do this anyway

Nice bike especially with racing exhaust included instead of those hideous factory cans.
Im going to miss the twin.
But Ducati Corse has sucked as much HP as they can pretty much out the current morors. So a inline 4 or a V4 are the only options left. I'll take the v4 thank you..

don't think there's any race exhaust included

i don't understand the comments on the limited production runs of these bikes, think about it Ducati really never stops making limited bikes adding a little numbered yoke and trying to make it sound special it really adds very very little value at this stage.

Even the Desmo they made 1500 of them and F**ked the first owners who thought it was a production run of 500.

I would take any recent limited edition bike from Ducati with a pinch of sale as any Ducati that has been produced in the last 10 years as there are always more sellers then buyers.

But carry on :)

well I was thinking about getting this given the spec. I have the 16 R and this FE looks to have 13HP and 9TQ over my bike stock. Given the heavy exhaust you know you will take off which would of course give you more HP/TQ would put it close to the SL unless I am wrong. If I get a good offer for my bike I would seriously consider getting this FE.

Actually the weight difference between SL and FE is 14 kg with liquids and with the same exhaust ..

that is not too bad considering all the work done on the SL and double to
price. Not sure why its heavier them the 16 R model but I would have to say
the exhaust plays a big roll. Regardless the FE does closely match the HP/TQ
of the SL.

well the SL is a limited number bike and the weight difference is where it counts most .. plus you get a race exhaust + map .. actually the 16 R has a better power to weight [emoji848]

From what I can see the weight difference is, as you say, 14 kg but the exhaust is NOT the same. The SL comes with essentially the same belly pan exhaust as the "R" model. The FE exhaust is about 8 lbs heavier than the SL or R model standard systems. Just changing the the stock FE exhaust for the older style Akra "race" system will drop around 11-12 lbs of weight.

Apples to oranges comparison....Ducati has changed the way they rate their engines 2017. There are PS ratings versus CV and standard versus SAE. To make it more confusing you also have NET and crank HP.... I'm not sure what spec Ducati switched to though.

The Bottom line is that the 2017 1299 Panigale make 197 hp compared to the 205 hp rating in 2016. There was no real loss in power between years just a change in the rating spec. The FE makes 12 more hp than the R model in standard form and the FE has a better power to weight ratio.

They now have like a statement under the power figures to tell you how it's now measured.

However, as the gentleman already said, and even with the revised figures, the Panigale R still has a better power to weight ratio than the FE, that's where it's at for me.

Well, you have to get something for that extra $49,000 now don't you!:roll eyes:

Seriously, I wold have loved to get a SL but just like most of us here we just can't afford or justify a bike in that price range.

How do you figure that?? 406 lbs / 197 hp = 2.06 lbs per hp the FE is 2 lbs per hp even... Granted it's not that much of a difference! But...

IMO ...If I had an R model I wouldn't even consider trading over to an FE. I had planned to buy an R model anyway next year. Now you can get the R with a SL engine to spice it up even more. What's not to like about that?

Which bhp figures you using? :D

I meant MY R, not out of the crate ;)

LOL... Which ones are you using! ..I'm using the current 2017 data from Ducati's website.

Ducati never really says what dyno spec they used before ( Probably PS or CV measured at the crank ) and what they using now except that it is to get it in line with a standardized industry wide rating system used in the registration documents...Whatever that might be...?
