Why I'm probably going to get the FE.

Yeah yeah, alright, fair point.

But more in terms of why I decided not to go with upgrading to the FE

So you're comparing your modded bike to a stock one?

I know!!... Funny .... here... Kinda like a bunch of guys comparing pictures of their girlfriends ....s after they've been photoshopped!:roll eyes:

All's cool Mutt... If I had a an R, I wouldn't change either...:)

From what I can see the weight difference is, as you say, 14 kg but the exhaust is NOT the same. The SL comes with essentially the same belly pan exhaust as the "R" model. The FE exhaust is about 8 lbs heavier than the SL or R model standard systems. Just changing the the stock FE exhaust for the older style Akra "race" system will drop around 11-12 lbs of weight.

it feels the same.

Niiiice!!....

Your probably right about it feeling the same!..

I think there might be a different standard exhaust offered on the SL in your neighborhood. I'm thinking..Euro vs USA spec???

Alright already :D

I wasn't nit picking at the numbers!!

More just I don't have much to gain here with the new bike. What it gains in power it then loses to weight.

I agree and one can pick up a 2016 Panigale R at a substantial discount too.

From what I've been told it's to meet the euro 4 noise requirements and a new design on the way shield.

I see a lot of posts here nitpicking the thing to death and I don't get it.

I'll just go ahead and say it: I don't think that there's any doubt as to whether or not the FE is a phenomenal bike. It is something very amazing.

I think that the only question for anyone thinking of ponying up the cash is whether or not they're going to be paying $40k today for a bike that's $22k tomorrow. And that's not a small thing. If people want to debate the merits of purchasing the bike on that part of the equation, I'll look forward to seeing people's thoughts.

If I decide to leap and get one I'll be hanging onto it for awhile. Not to worried about resale value. I get that if its a constant leap to the latest and greatest then yes, its something to consider. I wasn't planning on getting rid of my R but, oh what the hell.

Whats more interesting to me is that we haven't seen a DP exhaust option for this bike yet. European customers have already taken delivery and there isn't an option? I want get this bike to have a quiet, toned down bike just because of Euro 4. At least show me the option and make something available to get ride of that silencer.

Kevin, I don't think that the "latest and greatest" has a case here. Ducati will not make a "later and greater" V-Twin "ever" if that is indeed the plan. You can argue that it's not the SL package but there's no doubt in my mind that it's awfully close to the 1299SL for a very good price (relatively). I get liking the 1199SL more but if it's the 1299SL that gets your juices flowing, this is a spectacular alternative.

Very valid points, I love the 1199SL, wish I had the means. The Panigale R is what we all know a watered down SL as we all know. I've almost got 10k miles on my R from road and some track. I figured this bike would be an awesome machine. At this point it comes down to numbers and if my dealer can make a deal I enjoy.

I completely get all of that and it makes a lot of sense.

Depending on what the V4 looks like, it's possible that I might add an FE. It's not like I need another bike and it's close enough to my SL that it's largely redundant. However, if it's my last chance to get a new Ducati superbike that's the familiar Ducati that I know and love, then I might have to do it if I can justify the numbers.
