Will rearsets help the pain?

Ok guys I went for a normal Sunday afternoon ride today while on vacation and it was a hot one for my liking! 30+ dec c and humid as hell. Bike temp was up to 108 dec c for a small amount of time while in traffic through town, while riding was at about 90 to 95. Pretty normal stuff! I had the usual heat from the rear cylinder head but I didn't think it was too bad. Forgot to mention I am a bit of a gear freak as I have crashed before on the track so despite the heat still had full jeans on with full leather jacket and gloves. People though I was crazy but I feel safer like that. Anyway when I got home I stripped down to jump into the pool and realized I had burnt my right leg bad enough to blister. Do you guys think a set of dp rearsets or something similar to bring my knees up enough to avoid this again! Now let me say, I have the race seat and I have the latest heat shields installed just a few weeks ago, on both the head and the exhaust. I run the termi slip ons. How are you guys dealing with this? At 5'10" I can't be the only one with this problem.

Wow. Sorry to see that. Surprised with the new shields that it will still do that. My opinion on the rearsets is no, they won't make a difference if it's THAT hot. I have them and there's no noticeable difference vs the stock pegs.

I only ride with full leathers in the hot and dry New Mexico climate and have yet to experience any heat issues after 1,500 miles.

I see temps in that range a lot and get the heat rash/burn on my right leg almost every time I ride it for any length of time when the weather is warm. I hate to say it, but I think that is normal. I have the old heat shields and am not upgrading since you aren't the first person that still has the issue and also has the new heat shields. You may be on to something with the height. I am about your height as well and I get burned on my right leg on the inside above the knee. Maybe those with no heat problems are shorter or taller than we are? I am running stock rearsets with LSL pegs, stock exhaust and a comfort seat if that helps anybody figure it out. :)

Ive noticed with the full Termi system, I feel the heat from the rear cylinder much more. So with that said, you might not want to go that route.

The rearsets might help move your legs away, I am a bit taller so I don't know.

I have the rearsets and they won't help particularly. I still feel the heat, although I have a different exhaust with (currently) no heat shield. I ride here in leather jeans at 100+ F for the same reason, just makes me feel safer. Ironically I wear a Ducati mesh jacket with full armour on top to try and keep my core cooler.

Typically I ride to work in khakis for 10 minutes or less and get no burns. On the weekends we ride for a few hours plus a stop for lunch and I wear kevlar jeans. I am exactly 6' tall with stock rear sets and the DP Race seat (also used to use the stock one) and have absolutely no indication of any burning. Yes it gets hot but I shift around a lot and never squeeze with my legs. Sometimes I do a little squat move and let the breeze blow past my junk. It buys me a little time.

Geez I don't get it. That's bad! I don't think new rearsets are going to help, but might if your leg position is right next to the cylinder or exhaust loop. Do uou ride with your heels on the pegs? I'm 5'11, have Rizoma sets, full termi and stock seat. No burns, I don't even really notice the heat. I rode 2 weeks ago in Kevlar jeans, 96F heat, some stop and go with bike temps up to 223F.

Just crack your knees away from the tank a couple of inches and get some air in there - makes a HUGE difference.

This is racing bike, need protective gear to protect against bike, haha! For tooling around town I wear the latest army field uniform trousers that have knee pockets for pads. I have these left over with the pad set. This works great for me. You can probably find them in a surplus store for cheap cheap (50/50 nylon cotton) and are nice and strong in case you bail off the bike at city driving speeds. It comes in plain colors as well so you don't look like you are driving into combat, haha! For you speed demons, you really should wear the specific safety gear, which would easily eliminate burn problems and provide the best level of safety.

If you get a comfort or race seat it will raise you up about an inch. Have you tried getting your bike on stands and trying different ways to position your legs?

Or you could always buy an R...no heat issues there :D
....and no comments from Stw please :)

The R is amazing. Drives itself, produces amazing power with proprietary exhaust manifolds, I've heard it even blows you while you ride it.

Not sure my wife approves of your post :D:)

What are full jeans? a gear freak would be wearing leather. I've never got cooked on my R. It gets damn hot but no burns, not even close.

I noticed that if I apply more pressure on the ball of my feet by rotating my ankle, it elevates my thigh higher on the tank away from the heads hot spot. Yep, I ride more tippy toe. ;)

Ok, I guess I need to explain, No shorts! Jeans! ;). I ride on the ball of my feet! Force of habit, and I do use my knees a lot to hold the bike, I understand that it would be easier if I didn't and I get relief by either moving my leg open or going to my toes on the pegs, I can't bring myself to ride on my heels of my feet like some squid! IMO! And when I say a gear freak I mean I always wear jeans at least and jacket. Never shorts and a t shirt!

I am thinking of a knee area wrap or like a patch on my jeans or something.
