Hello from Cancun guys! Just checking if any of you have been through the thought (emotional) process I am in. I currently own a Diavel Carbon Red loaded with termis, etc., I've had another Carbon Black and a MTS S. I had to keep only one bike so I chose the Diavel Carbon Red. Problem is I can't get my thoughts out of the Panigale 1199 S ( better R) and I can currently own only one bike. I'm not sure whether trading the Diavel for the Pani would be fine ... Has any one of you done so and why? I'm not very much on track days. As a friend of mine told me once, bikes are rather emotional purchases as you will hardly get full performance of what they're meant to deliver.

I'm just afraid of regretting letting go the diavel but still can't help constantly tempting myself to trade for the 1199. Any advice?

It depends on what your emphasis is on.. if comfort is your main factor, the Pani is not the ideal thing as its not an ideal long distance riding bike but if you want that performance and nimble handling of a light sportbike and eventually decide to make the decision to do some tracking, the Pani is ur go to bike..

I own an R and I ride with a grp of people where atleast 3 or 4 of them are riding Diavels. Only another guy and myself are Pani riders.

I agree its an emotional purchase but once you make your decision, be happy and do not look back and regret it else you will feel a lot more worse than you are right now

PM White13Pani quick!

No disrespect meant to White13Pani, but...

Sarkuch, if I were you, I would run over to his "Look what MY R does" thread as fast as you can. Make him an offer on his R, sell your Diavel elsewhere, take care of the warranty items, & have a blast with the rest of the time on your nearly new R! : )

Again, no disrespect to White13Pani (I believe you & am truly sorry to hear about all the issues you've had with the 1199s), but if he really is done with Ducatis, then, Sarkuch, I would move on it if I were you.

Sincerely,

A Happy R Owner

Don't do anything until you test ride a 1199. It is a totally different animal than the diavel.

I own a 1199tc and love it to bits. I spent a day on a Diavel and personally I struggle to accept that both bikes could be the 'right bike' for the same person although the Diavel is the street bike of choice for Checca.
The 2 bikes are so different I feel they must be right for peeps looking for different things. The MTS on the hand appears to be a pretty good crossover machine and could bring plenty of good times to peeps in both camps.

i have both bikes and if you are to only keep one bike i would say go for the Diavel, the reason being it's just so accomplished at most things and you can keep up with any bike on public roads.

If you were to do a lot of track days i would go with the R but as you are not i would stick with what you have and when you do fancy doing a track day just rent a bike.

Cannot agree with this post....The Diavel is hugely flawed in my book,,, Suspension is awful..Fueling even worse... Handling is meh... I find my 1199 an infinitely better bike....:)

I'm in the same boat. I am heading to the dealer tomorrow to see about trading my 2013 Diavel for a 2013 1199. There is no logical justification as I don't do track days and I'm going to lose a lot of money. But money isn't everything and you only live once. No regrets, that's my motto. That and everybody Wang Chung tonight

I purchased a new 2012 Diavel Carbon - rode it twice, and sold it to my friend (10 days, 4 hours and 22 minutes from the first time I rode it), but who of us is counting. That said, I would never do that with the 1199. Therefore I am.

In my personal opinion, you cannot compare a Diavel to an 1199.

Two completely different flavors.

It's equivalent to comparing a Porsche 911 GT2 to a Porsche Cayanne or Panamera.

I own an 1199 R, and I have ridden the Diavel several times. I love both bikes. I will own both bikes. It would not be an either or situation with me just because neither bike can be compared to the other. One is a very high performance motorbike, where the other is more of a cruiser type sport bike which is passenger friendly. Sure the Diavel most definitely can hold it's own in the twisty's but nowhere close to the capabilities of an 1199.

So what is your preference? High performance and discomfort or less performance, leisure, convenience and comfort?

To me, both bikes are outstanding in their own right and having to sacrifice one for the other is unjustified.

What is drawing you away from the Diavel?
What is drawing you to the 1199?

Teen wolf said it best. It's an emotional purchase and you should have no regrets. Just be honest with yourself when deciding. Both bikes will pull women, both bikes will handle well, both bikes will excite and raise the senses, both bikes look damn sexy, both bikes are exotic, both bikes have racing heritage....what's your flavor brother is what it all comes down to.

Viva Ducati!!!!!!

+1

The Diavel might have 150hp on paper but a Pani in wet mode would blow it out of the water!

The Diavel could be a really great bike and deliver all it promises if they would just put a 1600cc long stroke motor in it - then it would be awesome but a completely different animal to the Pani. It just has the wrong motor!

Comfort: meh. Despite the Diavel having a broader softer saddle my butt actually gets uncomfortable sooner on it than on the Pani. Maybe I've just got a Pani shaped butt by now !!
:D

I traded my '12 Carbon Red Diavel for a '12 Panigale S last November. I am keeping the Panigale, but seriously considering trading in my ZX-12R for another Diavel.
