As many like myself are still waiting for our bikes to arrive, I see more and more going up for sale. Made me think if I would buy used and save a fairly good amount of money in doing so.
For me the answer is no, mostly out of paranoia perhaps. They always seem to say it over recent financial problems. If money is a big issue you should not drop that kind of change on any bike to begin with. But I worry about the following,
It is a bike with many issues that drive the owner nuts, (more issue then normal) or Broken in by someone like onearm bandit, lol

I have had a few ducs but never a used one. What's your guys thoughts as more are going up for sale.

Yes and I have in the past. But do diligence is required to get a good one. My 748 was purchased pre-owned and I had really good success with it.

Yes, I would buy used, but there would need to be a clear fiscal benefit from doing so. The used ones I have seen up for sale are basically the same price as brand new!? The first person that buys one of these things has to bear the "drive it off the lot" hit on the value I think. It is something I account for when I buy brand new.

Lots of great ones out there. When I was looking at 1198s, I found most were either pampered or they were raced. Easy enough to spot the difference. Ducati owners typically pay a professional to wrench on their bikes (read: everything done on time and everything done properly).

I wouldn't buy a Japanese bike because they're typically ridden hard and put away wet, but your average Duck owner takes far better care of their investment.

Bought my first two bikes used , 620 2003 monster and the engine blew up after two weeks, jan. last year! Scored a 2005 620 engine threw it on worked perfect! In may of last year I wrecked the 620( funny story ill explain later, guarantee to get a laugh!) Got a neglected s2r with the help of a friend we went overthe bike returned it to its prime, but still some issues linger! Moral of the two stories buy new, unless you KNOW what the history is on the bike and have tools, time and tons of patience!

Bought my first one new and my second one used from the dealership.
Saved a load of money and I'm very happy with the bike.

bought the 900, the S4rs and the 848 used. So far better than new. I wanted to buy a used panigale but I couldnt wait so I just went for it.

I am definetly having a good think about buying this one.

If I would buy any second hand Duc it would only be from the guy's at Desmo HQ or a restoration.

Go for it! That bike in the exact same colour got me hooked on Ducs! Was a teenager when the mighty 900SS came out, wasted gallons of drool over it:rolleyes:

BTW I'd buy a used Duc if I had my eyes on a particular one, my old bike was as good as new when I let it go

Have bought 2 in the past, a 2006 749S and 2006 999, both were fantastic. Just do your homework and know what to look for and ask, same as buying any used vehicle.

Go get that squarecase, Wallaroo! That's a damned nice Supersport.

As to buying used......I currently own three Ducati motorcycles. The 1199 came new. My first Ducati, a 1995 900 SS was bought used with about 2000 miles on it (it's close to 40k now). The other one....well....it's hard to find a new '64 250 when you weren't even born then. ;)

Just bought a used Panigale S that looked brand new. Only had 1700 miles. It was $5k less than a new one so I went for it. It was clearly tracked but I will probably do the same thing myself so I wasn't too worried. I also got an extended warranty just in case it blows up or does something weird. So far it runs great and I love the heated seat! Just have to sort out the suspension and the slippery stock foot pegs gotta go.

WTF? Heated....seat?

Antihero, you are right, never a Jap bike. I have sold 3 of my ducati's and regretting one of them that I sold. I babyed mine to the fullest. So yea, ducati owners do take care of their babies.

In warranty? Any day.

Out of warranty:
with service history? Yes
without service history? .... NO

Depending on how things go in the future with my bike should I buy another Duc and I have cash in hand I'll definitely be buying used. $5K is a damn good chunck of change to save.

guess craigslist is winning here. oh well. andy kaufman rules....you guys need to step your game up.
