I am thinking about trading my 2015 1299S in (they sold it to me as 2016 model) mainly because it has been at the dealership for so long trying to get so many things fixed since i had it in November of 2015 :(

The Ducati dealership in Rockingham (Kim Britton Motorcycles) can't reproduce the faults therefore i can't use Lemon Law on them :( however they offered me a straight swap for a 2016 1299 base model just like my wife's bike (which we've bought from Frasers Motorcycle in Perth).

My question is would you guys do it? I do not ride on Tracks (i do not have the skills) i only ride on the roads where i commute mostly on bikes.

I am a bit sad that if i do i will lose all the specs of the S model if i trade down :( and i am scared i will probably regret it.

I love my base. I could have purchased either and chose a base. Don't regret it at all. A 2016 new with a new warranty is a nice do over. Unless there's an anniversario on th floor. Then get that and pay the difference since you don't track.

How long is the list of things wrong ?? And no I wouldn't trade down to a base personally as i'm pretty happy with what the S offers otherwise i would've saved myself 8 Grand in the first place and got the base. I don't track mine either btw. Hopefully Brittons can get it sorted for you although not sure what they're like as a dealer as I went through Frasers and have had no dramas.

Afraid that its your dealer who is the problem more than bike.
I had some electrical issues on a new bike in 15, with the dealer spending
many hours in the workshop without success. We could recreate the fault on the
dashboard, but the diagnostic computer could not see it.

Between my own communications with the importers, and solid back up from the dealer,
Ducati did what was needed.

If your dealership isnt behind you, then you are screwed.

With respect to trade for base over S, you have both bikes in the household apparently.
I dont imagine many folk on here are in the position to swap back and forth between 2 bikes in order to feel the merits.
You need to ride both and decide if the costs of trading down but for new is ultimately worth it.

Personally, I think that you have never sounded happy with the Panigale, and
if you are heading for trade, you would be better served going for another brand.

Im in the same dillema 2 weeks ago. Similar story. I own 1199s. But having ridden 959 (which I would draw analogy to 1199 baseI was offered) and 1299s (which solidified my opinions on how S series bikes handle with lighter wheel and ohlins), i decided not to take the offer, and gamble on my luck that my 1199s will this time be fixed for good. I've been proven wrong twice before, but I am hoping 3rd time is a charm, just because those lightweight wheels..... do make a difference to me....

My advice is to try riding the base. Your dealer might give a test ride. If you're not like me, been spoiled by my S for 2 years prior to this, thenaybe it's ok for you :) there is still hope!!

like Bonz say's how many things have gone wrong ?

If you want to show how it is cutting out, ride around with a gopro and record every ride....then you have your proof to show how bad the problem is, which Ducati need before starting anything.

To your question.....no I would not change, the S is a awesome bike and i think you would regret it at some time.

No, I will not trade down, simply because there is no guarantee that the new 1299 base will not have same problems you are having now..(or unless they can guarantee that)

1299s to 1299 base bc the s doesn't work right, and is still under warranty?

that is an insulting offer.

couldn't agree more,

trade for a similar mileage used 1299S, that's reasonable, trading down to the lesser model is a slap in the face. nothing wrong with base model, but you paid for an S, should have an S.

My bike has been at Frasers and Britons a few times this time both bikes are at both dealership for almost 3 weeks now lol still they cant fix it.

I think on Monday i am going to yamaha to trade the S in on the R1M Yamaha - 2 of my friends own the new R1M and they had no problems with their bikes at all.

My wife wants to keep her bike so we will try to get it fixed for her :) she is a die hard Ducati Fan girl.

I dont have much cash so i am going to have to trade the S in on a new R1M otherwise i will have to come up with $10,000 cash plus the 1299 for a new R1M and that's not a good deal to me.

My only problem will be finding a good Yamaha dealership to buy from since Cully's Yamaha hate my guts (i wrote a bad review on their dealership).

In the end i will probably keep the S and trade the base 1299 on a new R1M so my wife could have a nicer bike since she is a Ducati Fan Girl (i will have to finance $5000 to make up the difference).

The problems we are having with our 1299 and the 1299s is the engines would shut off when using clutch manually or while idling at traffic lights or when we are about to take off after a set of traffic lights would go green.

There is nothing wrong with our riding skills we have been riding for well over 20 years and we have owned over 6 different bikes each so we are no newbies at riding bikes. Furthermore we also know a lot of other Panigale owners who also have the same problems !!!

I agree. Just do it. Please.

They need to swap you with what you paid for! IMO I feel like you're getting boned personally. If its a manufacturer defect then why are you having to sacrifice your hard earned money and downgrade to offset their problem. I mean I own a base and love it, its a excellent bike but if it had a continuous issue I would not accept a 959 to fix their problem.

This question is like asking, should I trade my 2015 335i for a 2016 328i? You are giving up thousands worth of features for a model year newer with no changes. The decision does not come down to whether an S is worth it over the base, it comes down to you already owning an S and downgrading.

For those that don't feel as if it is a downgrade, they are wrong. Whether you need them or not or if the additional features are worth the cost, an S to a base is a downgrade in trim.
