Just had the whole rear axle assembly replaced ~3 months ago due to rust, not even 4k miles later and this happens...

I noticed metal shavings all over my rear wheel and found all these scratches everywhere.

I have the worst luck

Weird they've been using this hub design for a long time. Vendor problem of some kind.

Is there some play in the spindle? Looks like the phonic disc made contact w the speed sensor and the hub spindle circlip failed. Did this swingarm/eccentric have corrosion issues?IMG_1320.jpeg

Friggen crazy! I hope you can get this replaced under warranty or a goodwill gesture from the dealer. I think its time to fill a complaint with the NTSB and get a TSB issued if there isn't one already.

I think I'll change the swingarm sooner than later just to see if there's enough grease in the hub. I've run these in the rain a lot on the earlier bikes no problems. But you guys are forcing me to look.

No warnings beforehand, bike rode the same, only reason I noticed it was to clean the chain, looks like it just happened on my most recent ride.

Superdomestique, the eccentric rusted out 3 months ago, my post is somewhere here on the forums, everything in the drawing you shared has been replaced by the dealer, minus the swingarm, sprocket, and sprocket carrier.
Since the replacement, the bike has been far away from any water to avoid rusting again, no sign of corrosion either.

JHT, that'll be my next step, thanks for reminding me to do so.

Bagger, definitely check the grease, I planned on doing it, but i couldnt figure out how to lift the rear up without using the rear stand in order to remove all the components.
So since I reach the desmo quickly, I was going to make sure the dealer does it as its supposed to be done at that time.

Not sure if my bike just wants to be a lemon now, but I have been pushing myself to pursue other brands.

With a front stand and a floor jack with a block of wood under the engine. Very easy if you have the OEM exhaust. With the Akra, remove the cans and use the jack with a square piece of wood on the very obvious but part I can't describe right now to the rear of the oil pan. Or, jack stands under fixed footpegs. With my 1199, I used a nylon tie down on the subframe and run over an exposed ceiling joist in the garage.

UPDATE: "One of the brake disc mounting bolts heads sheared/broke off."

Damaged components: rear phonic wheel, screws, hub, rear brake disc, plate, circlip, rear wheel spindle. ~$3000 repair.

All of these are brand new components with less than 4k miles on them. Aegis said they will not cover this warranty claim (surprising I know).
I'm still paying off the repairs from the rusted hub 3 months ago, sounds like time to change bikes sadly.

I am fighting with the dealership as I have had nothing but issues ever since taking my bike to them.

I honestly think that they didnt torque them and the bolt mut have backed out. When I got my bike from them last time, the nuts were loose on my superlite sprocket. appeared to be hand tight on a few of them.

And this is the reason the only one who works on my bikes is me. If they're refusing the warranty call the factory rep. If that had backed out and locked the rear wheel they'd be talking to your lawyer.

Just got off the phone with the dealership. They reached out to Ducati yesterday to see if they will cover it.

The service rep spoke with the manager, reviewed my case and must have realized they screwed up. They let me know that if Ducati doesn't cover this, the dealer will pay for everything.

I needed to change the tire so I looked at the hub bearings. They had grease in them but it looked like they had been hot enough to make the grease fluid (and I only use the rear brake to steer) particularly the drive side. It almost seems like the grease has too low of a temperature range. I've serviced several of these before as they're common to the 1098,1198 but I've not seen this before. So i'll repack with some high temp moly grease. Mine's a 21 SF.
