Help needed - problem with gear position sensor and DQS (Ducati V4 2018)

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I can confirm that the new part for a 2018 V4 is the same as the 2019. Part number is 55244421A. Dealer just confirmed it and its on order.

Looks like I have this problem on my 2018 V4S. The bike is out of warranty so I appear to be up for the replacement cost.

Anyone did the sensor replacement on their own? Was any reset or calibration needed afterwards? I replaced mine, worked with ignition on but got the same error right after starting the engine. V4s 2019, replaced old novotechnik with new novotechnik HIGHTEMP, bought from ducati omaha

Just replaced mine. 2020, Hirschmann.
Needs recalibration and EML to be reset.
Old one was burnt out at cable.

by any chance you know if that can be done with melcodiag? or just at the dealer.

Think there is a complicated procedure that is a bit hit and miss involving warming the bike up, then stopping the engine and keeping the dash lit up... its on the Internet. But not sure of it is used in conjunction with a diagnostic tool or not. I'm not taking any chances as the cost and time of a trackday is too much to put at risk.

I plugged the melcodiag and there isn't even the gear reset option so yeah. Thanks!

I’ve had success without a diagnostic tool. Here’s a link to the process. Ignore what’s supposed to show on the dash, the confirmations won’t flash without the diag tool. Follow the steps and then turn the bike off completely and turn it back on. Gears should indicate.

I couldn't start it without the tool. Maybe if you get the -- symbol with no gear displayed it will start without the tool. IIRC, both sets of instructions in this thread is missing something. I think I had to go all the way up and all the way down for it to complete. If you mess anything up the whole process resets and you just get the -- symbol instead of a N or gear number.

I followed the instructions in the guide I shared, but I should note that the mastertech who gave me this insight also said it’s a finicky system and half the time they have to redo it with the diag system due to fault of the system. So if it doesn’t workout the first time, try again.

The key for me has been ignoring what’s supposed to show up on the dash, since nothing does - and just completing the process
