Marchesini Magnesium wheels or BST Carbon wheels?

I would like to enhance the agility of my Ducati 1199. Marchesini Magnesium wheels or BST Carbon wheels? (This is not for a track use)


And can someone help me find the right Marchesini model for a1199? (M9R? M10R? M10RS? Etc ...)

Any feedback or help would be appreciated!

Never had Mag wheels but loved my carbon fiber rotobox wheels on my s1000rr. Never had an issue with them until my wreck when the front cracked.

carbon wheels will look sick on white bikes. my vote would be carbon fiber even though I have maw wheels on my R .

compare the OZ Gass ali wheels which are close to the weight of the mag wheels on my 1199 and the BST wheels on the SL, Carbon wheels are better.

I have BST's on my S1000rr track bike and I love them. They were the best mod I have done to that bike. It feels more agile (though not by much) than my 1299S. Make sure you pony up for the ceramic bearings.

I heard the carbon wheels are only good for 5 years...any truth to that?

My concern with the CF wheels was that if you have an off...to truly know if the CF is stable, you need to image them (X-ray?).

But...I don't know this for certain-

My opinion BST wheels are outdated even the new rotobox are not good looking in person the only nice looking carbon wheel on market is the SL carbon wheels. I would go with Marchesini Magnesium

I've been going through the same dilemma for my FE.

BST carbon don't do it for me, I think the 'fat' spoke looks a little dated.
The BST carbon SL wheels are v nice but I'm not going to spend circa £4.5k plus VAT on those.
Ali OZ are good value but I think the machining detail is to fussy.

So for me it's down to Marchesini M10RS kompe (Ali) or go the whole hog and get the Mag versions from the 1199 SL. My concern is longevity of the Mag for road use so I'm edging towards the Kompe version.

Having had both on various bikes over the years, mostly track bikes, I'd say you can be sure you would never notice the difference between BST or Marchesini Mag anywhere on the street. You'd barely notice any difference on the track, if any difference at all. So I'd say there is not a performance reason to choose one or the other except in theory. Basic durability, no contest, the Mag wheels are going to hold up better. Crash damage? Either one is probably going to be ruined, so no difference. So really you're just down to the look you want, that would be reason to choose one or the other, go with what you like.

BST don't do it for you?mayby u never own one.i got BST with ceramic bearings on my two race bikes and my RSV4RF the best wheels I ever own now time for me fit one of those on my 1199s

The whole reason why I want to upgrade is that I've tried my friends 959 with Marchesini Mags at the tail of the dragon and his bike seamed so much lighter and easier to handle around corners than my 1199 which is in theory a lighter bike. It was drastic. So I concluded that reducing the wheels unsprung masss changes everything.

You have a 1199 base like mine and are racing a 959. Help me understand why his bike felt easier to handle. And will changing my wheels have this drastic effect I'm looking for?

short stering rake: 24 º on 959, 24,5 º on 1199 and short wheelbase: 1431 mm on 959, 1437mm on 1199.

Narrow rear tire also influences.

Good info here by you guys,

Rake, length, gyroscopic effect from engine, rear wheel size on a bike that is lighter but feels heavier to ride.

My 899 and 959 feel so much lighter to ride through corners than my 1199 when clearly they are not. The smaller Pani's are a sweet ride, that's why people like them so much especially straight out of the box.

One of the mag reviews reckoned that lighter wheels were the best way to get better performance for the money than any other mod. I wouldn't know but their reasoning seemed uh, reasonable. Damage would certainly be a consideration for me I think.
