thanks for thoughtfully answering the question of clearly comparing 1198 1299. i have same question . i currently have 998 love the torque. i have ridden street fighter 1098, 2015 monster 1200 and 2015 Diavel all 3 strangley don't seem to have the torque of 998. I am leaning towards getting 1299s now that it seems torque is back.

again thanks

No offense,
1098 SF! if that bike doesn't make torque!?! I don't know which does?. I have never owned a bike with the power ( torque ) delivery like the sf.
Just needs some fine tuning, like most Ducs.

If you're looking for a bike that makes torque, this is it.

Hey guys,
I just bought a mint 2011 Ducati 1198 with 1900 miles. The bike is awesome, I love the looks and it just feels great all around. I was looking hard at the new 1299 but chose the 1198 for several reasons. I like the dry clutch and the more boxy look with the tubular frame. My thought is it still has the Ducati old school look. This is the first bike I have had with the quick shifter, it is awesome! I do street riding and we have lots of awesome roads where I live, no track days for me. I read the 1199 lost all the torque the 1198 had. Did this all get put back in on the 1299? I have a buddy looking to buy a Ducati also. He is also looking at the 1198 vs the 1299. Just trying to figure out how the 1299 and 1198 compare? Just curious how the engines perform against each other? I did lots of reading and people seemed to be upset selling the 1198 to get the 1199 when it came out. I just took mine in for service and the Ducati mechanic also had a 1198. He said there is no way he would sell it for a 1199 or 1299. I would like some thoughts from people who have ridden both.

The 1198 is a good bike but the 1299 is better. stock to stock, try changing directions and you will know what I mean.

There is a way, if there will come a time that he has extra money, he would sell it

the way i see it, for your intended purpose, get the bike that give you more appeal, it doesnt really matter what you get for goofing around, they will do what you ask for

just dont start compare a 1198 to a 1299, its not even apple to orange, its more like apple to Caviar :)

1198 has the classic look of Ducati, and ride like one

1299 will murder 600s in corner and crush 1000s on the straight, and reliable/comfortable enough to do multiday trip

Perfect description! I have a 1299 Panigale S with full Akra. You really cant ask for more. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
