1199 / 1299 Battery Question..

Is the 2014 1199 battery the same as a 2016 1299?

Looking to put in a lithium battery, if possible.

Ok, thanks. That is the one I ordered it looks like. I've got a sponsorship with Shorai, so got a good disco already. They just didn't have the 1299 listed as a bike model yet, so I wasn't sure.

That, combined with the fact I'm brand new to Ducati, and I'm like a fish out of water.. :p

Thanks again for the response/help.

It's quite a bit smaller, physically, than the OEM unit, so it's easy to make it fit, plus Shorai gives you the foam filler pieces to make it fit nicely.

How improtant is the battery tender on a lithium battery?

The reason is my bike is in my appartment parking building with no access to a power outlet in my parking spaces. So if tender is important ill have to remove battery and balance it up in my room.

Any gone long term without a tender?

I have. They do much better than a comparable lead-acid, plus they usually up the respective cranking amps, which is nice. The only caveat to the lithium is cold-weather starting, but we're talking close to freezing temps, which is not usually typical for motorcycle peeps. Generally, the more heat on a lithium, the better it will perform.

I've let my old RC8R sit for months in the winter without starting and it would turn over without any hesitation.

check this one:

I got it a while ago and it works perfect! For my KTM 1290 Superduke I bought a year ago a Pulse 3 lithium ion battery; much more expensive and more sensitive. Prices dropped enormously last year..

The WPS can also be charged with a normal battery charger. I would recommend to buy a charger and set of decent cables as well. A lithium ion needs to be charged constantly cause they tend to lower pretty fast on a 1299.

Disregard A "Battery Tender" Idea!

There is a rather large misconception that "Battery Tenders" are a useful tool to keep a "Trickle Charge" on our precious Ducati batteries. Long ago I learned of the following item which has literally paid for itself 100 times over in regard to batteries on two of my high end Ducati's. This piece of gear is Hands Down the best purchase I have EVER made for my bikes, and I HIGHLY endorse it for anyone seeking to keep their battery alive!
It is NOT a "Trickle" Charger nor Battery "Tender" by any means. It is literally a Battery "Maintainer" that has kept me from replacing ANY battery in ANY of my Dukes! Here are a few threads from this forum:

I hope this has helped some realize that these products are FAR SUPERIOR to any normal Battery Chargers found at your local Bike Shops! Stay safe and ride it like you own it - Long , Hard, Continuous!!

at the newer generation lithium ion batteries you don't need to use special lithium ion chargers anymore.. Important is though that you'll buy a maintenance charger so the battery does not get overcharged.

The WPS batteries are these new generation ones..

Do these lithium batteries need regular electronic maintaining if not used much?

This one below is very light?

Yes, you have to keep them maintained (charged) at all times if you do not drive the bike. In my configuration the battery is down if I leave my bike untouched for say 4 or 5 days. The ECU uses power even though you're not driving, if a lithium ion battery drops below 10.5 volt its useless and you need to replace it.

Therefore I hook my bike(s) up to the charger if I get home, made a outlet cable in the little space under rear cowl, plug it in and done. Charger keeps the battery in perfect condition at all times. (need a maintenance charger though)
