I pick up a new 2014 1199 after sell my 2006 749s.....yippi!!!!
The plan: to transform a base into a S/R.

New Ohlins from Dan Kyle
Front; FGRT203 forks
Rear; DU930 TTX
Wheels; OZ aluminum
Rear set; Lightech
and a few other bits and pieces.

I will document the process here as $$s become available.
First on will be the Ohlins. both F & R have already been ordered.
This will be a 90% track bike.
Thanks to all the forum members here who I have gotten a lot of great information from (Kope)..... been snooping for months.
Photos of the new bike later today!

I have a set of perfect S wheels for sale if you decide to go that way. Listed under classified section.

base to S/R

Understand, but this is going to be MY version.
The Ohlins Im putting on is already better than the OEM S or R.
The point of this build will be to taylor the bike for my use and needs; functionally as well as esthetically. Even at stock it's plenty of HP for me....famous last words.

You can't transform a base into an R without a lot more work than that including engine work

the lighter flywheel is only $250 and there are for example carillo rods available readily...

there are also ECU flashes i consider being better than what the R offers...

cheers

So what's the specific problem with the stock rearsets that the Lightech's are going to correct?

(or is this really just about bling...)

keep track of the weight as the project goes on, it will be interesting to see where it ends up. SOUNDS LIKE A FUN PROJECT.

Its mine now

Spotted on the back of my truck.
Rear shock has been delivered (thanks DK) and installed.
Also a few other bits.

Charliem90;
stock rear sets are a bit slick and do not provide GP shift.

centeroff;
Yes have a nice pile of extra that I will be weighing and comparing to OEM.

PHL;
thanks for the tip.

well said cwbrown def more then enough hp for us mortals! and with the right upgrades along with a lighter bike there is a chance your bike will be faster then the R ! and i OWN a R so no one can say I'm a hater! i just didn't go your route because I've been wanting this bike for 5 years"¦. lol I've fantasized and dreamed of this bike before it came out"¦. I'm more then happy and i don't regret it one bit. however looking forward to your build and may i recommend the akra exhaust, shorai battery, :) good luck man

you can't be serious charlie? the stock rear sets are ....!!!!!! honda comes with better stock rear sets ! ! !

/shrug

They work for me. I don't care about GP shift (though you don't need to replace the rearsets to get GP shift - just the adapter linkage available from Ducati) and the "slipperiness" is easily fixed with replacement footpegs available from Rizoma et. al. - both fixable at considerable savings over cost of aftermarket rearsets.

I suppose if you're going for bling factor you could call 'em ..... Nothing wrong with bling.

Which OZ Alum wheels are you getting? Get the Carlos Checa replica ones, they look nice!

1199 base build parts

Thanks Quack,
LOVE the R you are a lucky man. Sure it would have been great to get the R if $s permitted. Im sure I'll end up spending close to the same anyway as time goes. The akra is on the list and already have the shorai...great minds..

bling

Charlie,
The entire bike untouched is "bling"; don't mind adding a bit more as long as the track function is there too.

Mali;
Yes was looking at the CC OZ's and they are nice but I think I'll stay with black.
Having not seen them in person, I'm not sure I want to take the chance.

some new parts

replaced the gas cap, Lightech....should save a little up top weight ;-)

Install Ohlins FGRTs on Base

Thanks Dan Kyle for the Ohlins F&R set up.
Installing the Ohlins forks...... probably not the way Carlos Checa's team does it ;-)
