Hello everyone

I need yours help and please help me with info:

I was to a track day with my new bike (1199) and even everybody tells me that this should be a very easy and good motorcycle for racing on circuit, i felt that it is very hard to operate it. first of all i think that the setup of the suspension could be the problem i dont know if i can do the setup (how many clicks -/+). I have 1.80/90 kg.
I also have a problem with the traction control, should i keep it activate it, or should i neutralize it?
ABS on or off ?

In the same period i ride a bmw s1000rr (stock) and it seems more easy to operate on a circuit and i am thinking to sell the Ducati and buy s1000rr. What is your advice? In 2 weeks i have track day in Serres (greece) and i would like an advice from you, the ones who knows the 1199 Panigale.

PS. I m not a professional race driver on motorcycle. I m national champion in Hill Climbing with Mitsubishi EVO 6 (open class 1000kg and approx 700 HP)

Regarding suspension, I would recommend that you ask someone that knows to make some adjustments, as without knowing the symptoms, it'll be hard for anyone to make good suggestions.

The electronics package on the other hand is easier and as you know very adjustable.

ABS - I would move onto the lower settings, but not off.
EBC - Depending on what you prefer. 0 for full engine braking, max-3 for least.
ETC - Towards a lower setting, but let it help you.

..... and may as well go with 195Hi :)

are you serious here asking a ducati forum who live and breath with the brand, who will go after you if you say anything bad about the 1199 like you killed their first born. what to do with the 1199. you wont get an honest answer from anyone but me maybe a few others. Sell the 1199 good luck with resale value though. the s1000rr is superior in every way especially to the novice rider. you will hear its ugly what was bmw thinking things like that but nothing about the performance of the bike. you will hear this imaginary soul and the bmw is boring cause its so smooth. yet the majority of people commenting have never had any real seat time with the s1000rr. I have both and dont have a horse in the race but if i had to choose one that i could only have in my garage its the hp4 every day of the week and twice on sunday.

You crack me up and typically I wouldn't say anything, but are you having a man-blob Monday?

my $0.02:

- the s1000rr is easier to ride more most riders, especially if you are coming from an I4. street or track. if easier riding with very smooth and strong power delivery is your main priority, go for it.
- the panigale is more difficult to ride (for some), but IMHO more rewarding (overcoming the difficulty) i personally find it quite easy to ride
- setup should be done professionally, if you don't know how to advance step by step ( set sag, rebound then compression) that said, the stock shocks might not offer the right range for you
- a proper setup will make the bike easier to ride and leave more life in the tires plus additional grip
- if i just bought a fisker , i wouldn't go on a tesla forum to ask if i shouldn't have got one of these.

what tires do you have on the bike? i've never seen that rear...

what were the surrounding temperatures?

which pressures were set on your bike and on the bmw? (which brand on the beemer?)

How is you lap-times comparing fastest/slowest drivers in track?
If you times is around 5s slower like fastest on there, then maybe start thinking set suspension spot on, but if you are 20-30s slower, just gasgas.. it is not the bike, its you..

Its all about personal aesthetics, likes, and dislikes. Ease of riding probably trends toward the s1000....joy of riding definitely trends toward the Panigale.

Pick what you want. I personally have two Ducatis (1199 and 899) and an 2013 R1. I'd give the R1 back and keep either of the Ducati's.

I've ridden the HP4 and it was much like the R1...nothing special. I don't fault others lack of aesthetic sense though ;-) ....its just a matter of opinion and everyone has one of those.

First of all, I would like to apologize for my bad English and maybe this is the reason why some of you answered me that way. All I ant is to get some advices from you, because you are more experienced than me in this type of motorcycle. This is the only reason why I made this topic.

I love Ducati, maybe not as much as you, but I like this model very much. I feel like I have the most beautiful motorcycle in the world, but this isn't enough, I also want to win in the race with it. I am a racer, I love speed very much, I am a sport guy, I am the national champion in hill climb in my country. I want to feel comfortable on this bike, with Ducati I had on our circuit my best time 1.40, but with Bmw my best time was 1.36. There are 4 sec, I am sure I need more training, but I also know that I need a better set up of the suspension. So the purpose of this topic is to learn from you and to get some good advice.

PS: My last 4 bikes were: MV Agusta F4 318, Ducati 1098, Yamaha R1. And the one that I have it know, Ducati Panigale, is the most beautiful in the world, I know that the BMW is very ugly, but I feel more comfortable with it on a race track. I choose beauty, but I also need to feel good with it, so please tell me what can I do to have better results with this beauty on a race track.

Thank you very much!
Daniel

My best time with Panigale is: 1.40
My best time with s1000rr is: 1.36
The Fastest time is 1.33 on my category (semi professional driver with some experience on track)

PS. I use pirelli super corsa sc2 for both of the bikes

Daniel
I can ride my Panigale faster than any other bike i have ever owned, BUT lots of people don't go as well on a twin as they do on a I-4, I would turn the engine braking down to 3 so that it feel more like a I-4 and I would also adjust the steering to make it a little quicker, it makes the bike much less work to drop in to a corner. In the end the BMW may suit you better and if it does by all means sell the panigale and get the BMW, it is a great bike..
good luck with your choice.
Bret

That's not a Pirelli SuperCorsa rear in the picture. Are you running different makes on tire front and back?

I've ridden both, and I think it all depends on your personal preference. I do think it's easier to go fast right out of the box on the Beemer.

The suspension when setup right on the Panigale is butter, but it takes time.

Both bikes are beasts. Do you really think you can get more than 90% out of either bike?

it looks like a Supercorsa with additional cuts ... these alone would let you lose a second i'd guess.

Daniel don't mind Mark our resident BMW guy... ;)
It doesn't take much other than saying "Ducati vs BMW" or "Rossi" to push him over the edge for a classic response.:D

And it often takes less than that! Still it's all good banter. Nothing worth taking seriously ultimately.

Of course, all good. It always good to have perspectives from both sides including banter...lol! I think the BMW is a terrific bike based on all the info and reviews I've read but I have no experience with it myself. I think each person would have different experiences with either bike. I don't think I would hate the BMW either but the Panigale is what I want and I'm happy with my choice.
