Interchangeability: The carrier flanges are interchangeable. An OEM flange can be used with an aftermarket quick-change sprocket & sprocket carrier. An aftermarket flange can be used with an OEM sprocket/sprocket carrier (OEM sprocket/sprocket carrier is a single component). There aren't any compatibility issues with respect to the flange. Quick-change sprocket carrier design, however, will differ from one manufacturer to the next. Therefore, a quick-change sprocket from one manufacturer may not mount on a sprocket carrier from another manufacturer. Cush drive pins, OEM or aftermarket, are interchangeable. Chain & sprockets... if you're running a 520 chain, then you need 520 sprockets, likewise for the 525... 520 and 525 share the same pitch, but the inner width/pin length differs between the chains, as does the thickness of the sprockets.

My suggestions for your consideration:
  • Run a 520 chain and sprocket to reduce rotating mass
  • Keep the stock number of teeth on the front sprocket (15) and keep it steel. I put on a SUPERLITE (#52902R) 520 Conversion Chromoly-Steel Front Sprocket and just ordered the same as a replacement.
  • Go to a lightweight, aluminum sprocket on the rear and go up at least two teeth. I went up three teeth, from 39 to 42, which is perfect for most rural back-roads and suits a tighter, technical tracks without the super-long straight. I put a SUPERLITE (#51804R) 520 Pitch Hard Anodized Aluminum Rear Sprocket on mine and just replaced it with same after a couple of race seasons.
  • Consider a quick-change carrier and sprocket combo.
  • I would order replacement cush drives, the OEM stuff is probably worn by now. I run SUPERLITE Polyurethane / Titanium Cush Drives. They last longer and look flash in red, particularly if you expose them with a fancy SUPERLITE Ducati Sprocket Flange (totally aesthetic upgrade)
  • I use a lightweight racing chain, a DID Chain 520 ERV7 series X'ring Race Chain. If you're OK with a little heavier chain, DID also makes a road version, which I had on my bike for years. With the 15/42 sprockets, you're looking at a 106 links. Oh, and I agree, the gold chain looks flash, especially against a black sprocket with a gold Sprocket Flange and black, titanium bolts. :)
  • Buy from a reputable specialist that knows what they're doing. I buy all my gearing from the Sprocket Center. I've sourced from them since 2008 and chain and sprockets are what they do. They'll even calculate the chain length for you if you want.
The 15/42 gearing combo will addess the lack of torque lower down in the rev range but erode your top speed. Don't kid yourself, the bike still has a very high top-speed, which I have not found yet. Half-way down the straight at the New Orleans track and I glanced down for a split-second to see 156 MPH and still pulling hard. You need good throttle control if you're running the 15/42 gearing on an older Panigale like mine (2012, no wheelie control). If you're not careful exiting a corner in second gear, you'll have the tank hitting you in the chest as a wake-up call.

FYI: I am a totally amateur club racer (AHRMA). I have no affiliation with any of the products or vendor; I'm just passing along my experience. 1199 Panigale (all models) 2012-2017 - Ducati - STREET
