Checking bike over, for tomorrow nights track night, first on 1199S.

Turned on ignition to change to lap timer and noticed no Neutral Green Light or N, but bike was in neutral.

Will only start with side stand up, so electronics think bike is in gear. I thought bike was running a bit rough, when i parked it up on Sunday, after a 200 mile run. I was a bit tired, so parked bike up.

Search of forum, seems to indicate a gear position sensor fault.

My question is, will it be ok to use bike on track night, with this fault? I will contact dealer in morning, but i very much doubt, they will be able to look at tomorrow.

Thanks for any info.

Look at the inside face of your sidestand leg. Check that the little magnet has not fallen out. It's only held in with a bit of silicone and some deformation rivetting. You can order a new one from Ducati if that is the case.

Had this fault on mine. Get it into the dealer when you get a minute. I would imaging everything will be fine for your track night. The gear position sensor is a known fault so you will be able to get it renewed under warranty. Got mine done about 3 weeks ago and it has made a massive difference. The gears slide in nice and smooth, you can find N no probs at all. There is plenty info on this forum about this if you need anything else.

yeah, what he said...makes massive difference after you get it fixed. Gear position sensor was failed on mine, causes rough running as electronics no longer knows what gear its in. After fixed you will hear that twin cylinder healthy thumping even after a long hot ride! I didn't know what I was missing for while until it failed bad enough for the dealer to recognize and swap the part out.

Went out for fuel and a test ride before track night, the bike was running rough, the fueling was way out, dash would change to N when in second and bike would surge.

Took bike into Ducati Glasgow and they were straight on it and fitted a new Gear Sensor. Thanks to Martin and his team, excellent job.

The bike also took an update, the fueling is so smooth now, throughout the rev range, surging when on motorway at 70mph has completely gone, happy days.

Made the track night, 15 minutes before briefing, bit of a rush, but all good, first track day in 14 years, the bike performed great, bit of a culture shock after riding on road for so long. This bike can shift, when you get a chance like that, to open it up.

happened to my bike as well, a gear sensor swap fixed it. try turning off EBC and quickshifter, see if that helps, back to old school riding.

Scotrmz experience same as mine exactly, I wonder was there any damage done while riding it with failing gear sensor. Mine is so much more smooth now and sounds so healthy twin sound at all rpms

300 miles since and in even hotter weather of the recent heat wave and no issues. So cool!
