I had this happen a couple of months ago. Get an M6 helicoil kit with the drill and tap.

The thread pitch 1 vs 1.25 and taking up with Loctite has me list. Thread pitch is the distance between threads so it would bins before you get enough threads in no matter which way you go.

You do need to drill and tap further than the length of the coil. Getting them out if you don't drill deep enough is difficult unless you can find the ridiculously simple tool that makes it really easy, but difficult to find. Trying to tighten the coil deeper will cause it to close up resulting in a bind and not enough depth for the bolt. The whole job is quicker than reading this thread.....

this is a 2013. The cover holes aren't threaded. I can check again, for sanity sake. I know on my 959 I could thread m8 bolts to help remove it, this baby however I don't believe is threaded.
My 2013 has the m8 jacking threads in the cover. Not sure how the earlier one looks in terms of drilling and tapping it

I found a M6x1.25 kit on amazon, but they sent me the M10 kit.... I am in the process of returning/exchanging the kit. If the right one finally gets here, I'll get into it.
I'll take a few pics of the cover while its off. Im pretty sure there's no M8 threads on the cover. I could be wrong.

Sweet. I tried attempt 1 already. No helicoil.
Reviving the threads isn’t the answer. I need new threads at least for the 1/4” below the bolt shoulder, but there’s no meat to thread. I’m thinking upsizing is the only answer but still thinking on it.

Absolutely no thread on the cover itself. Confirmed.

Could have been swapped with an earlier model cover.....

Not sure what you mean about there not being enough thread for a helicoil. Not to be insulting, but are you confusing a helicoil with a tap? An M6 helicoil will be drilled over 7mm in diameter then tapped and the helicoil installed. So you are oversizing the original hole. I wouldn't go to an m8 unless you know exactly what is around the hole. Last thing you need is an oil leak.

I still believe the M6 helicoil is your solution.
